this looks like something that's worth doing (and cheap)! how did u guys connect the led strip to the underside in the boot?

and I'm guessing there's no resistors etc that need wiring in, just connect and away ya go?

Have a look at my links - there are connectors for the LED strip that are really easy to attach (I added two smaller strips at the sides to illuminate further back.
You can also get adaptors for the lamp housing, makes it quick and easy to switch back to stock.

You can do it quite a few different ways, however you do it the outcome is the same and much better :)

ordered both, will wait till ive fitted then maybe also do 2 smaller bits :D

thanks again all

Looks like mattgecko's FS thread has been well and truly hi jacked, does anyone want to shed some light on this

Maybe due to the price... :tumbleweed:
Yep, I think he realised that people from the UK wouldn't be ordering something like this from the US when it's so much cheaper to source locally

I make light kits for an assortment of vehicles, they are designed more for the non DIYer. I incurage people to make there own if they can and if not my kits are available.

They do look good - and to be fair they look like 5050 SMDs (brighter) which are more expensive than the 3528s suggested above.

Certainly inspired me though! I had a load left from a floating wall TV back light that I repurposed.

mine arrived over the weekend, will give it a go (thanks for the how to thread, bookmarked) :D

ok so gave it a go and fail, i had no cable laying around so i need to order some. also does anybody know what the black end on the photo below is called? i want to solder and make the cables up etc before just connecting it to the car , i just want a male and female to match below and then i can just make up a loom myself (trying to cut in and solder onto existing is too much of a mission lol)

You don't have to cut into the loom and solder on to the wires - if you pop the light out you'll find that, on the rear of the bulb holder, there are two copper connectors that you can solder your wires to very easily

It looks like a motherboard header. If you want to use the adaptor then just cut that black end off and join wires. I used speaker wire, easy enough and tidy as it's paired. Maplin do short sections for about 80p a metre.
Or get loads on ebay and LED strip light your kitchen units ;)

I had some spare speaker wire but it's huge lol, will buy a length of a metre or so tomorrow of some more suited wire.

And I'm sure I had a look on the back of the bulb holder but will double check tomorrow as I was rushing as it was getting dark.

I just wanted to turn the the single 2 pin connector into a double male connector (1 to plug in normally into the boot light, and then turn the 2nd into the led connector)

As it doesn't carry much juice you can get away with very thin wire. I went for the adaptor for ease of removal but just joined it straight to the wire runs. As there were 3 sets of wires I used screw terminal rather than solder. Still going strong after 18 months.

I ended up doing this myself too.
