Hi Everyone,

As all of you who live in hard water areas are aware, like me, you must dry the car with a drying towel to prevent water spots occuring by water evaporating naturally. This creates extra effort, is difficult to do quick enough on hot days and the introduction of a drying towel creates more opportunity for scratches and swirls.

After seeing how expensive the current inline filters are and discounting the proffesional resin vessels because I dont want to pay for it and store something that size for how frequently I use it I decided to develop my own inline filter.

Here are some comparison pics of the difference it makes....

The unit comes with standard 3/4" threaded ends which push-fit hose fitting will screw straight onto (See below for connection picture). The hose fittings arent supplied with the unit as most people already have them and B&Q sell them. Once you have them they can be re-used so there is no point including them with the unit and just adding pointless cost.

Andy sounds great and I would be interested but could you give some more detail on how long it would last/how many litres before recharging or replacing. Also any chance of some photos showing its performance - maybe showing half the bonnet with and half without your filter.

Certainly keen to know more too. Again, details such as how long it'd last before needing extra money spent to keep it working, etc.

I'm not a particularly hard water area but I still see better results drying the car at the moment. I'm more interested if it'd help me avoid drying the campervan after washing because that thing is fecking huge.

I'd be interested and would use such a device when I rinse off the cars and also for a large pitched roof conservatory that leaves terrible water marks as it dries with 'normal' water.

Cost of consumables, lifespan in litres, etc. Without compromising your ip on an open forum...

me too interested
Monaco Blue and water from Portsmouth Water Company ....comes out the tap with a car wash warning :headbang:

A few years back i did see one advertised which was an inline type which you connected to your standard hose and retailed at about £40.But not been able to find it so not sure if they went out of business.

So would be interested Andy if yours works.

This sounds like something you would see on Dragon's Den :D

I would also be interested in this, and have actually looked into them before. Something that connects to the standard hozelock connectors would be ideal.

Many thanks everyone, some very useful feedback and suggestions.

I will set it running and see how long it last in terms of number of litres before its looses effectiveness. I can also do a half and half picture to demonstrate it working - the Z4 has the perfect bonnet for that sort of thing lol.

Regards

Andy

Interesting indeed. As I am on a water meter, I did not fancy the commercial type where I have to use about 1000 litres of water to make 50 distilled or so.

still widely available but now c £56 and harder the water faster the degradation of the filtering process.
They do have a standard "hozelock " type snap on connectors at each end and fit at end or any place in a hose

I haven't tried Aqua Gleam, but think this is the only known product in the market at the moment. 0ppm and 30ppm filter can give 20 washes and 25 washes in hard water area respectively.

Hi guys, Ive been running the test and Ive come up with another question...

Flow vs total filtering?

The current water filter design does not inhibit water flow, which results in <30ppm. Is this good enough? It certainly is for me as it does not leave any water marks with <30ppm.

My instinct is to stick with what I have and anyone who wants 0ppm or is in a really hard water area could use two filters back to back since they are very cheap and there would of course be a discount for purchasing two making them even better value!
