FS black hardtop on eBay

If anybody is organising a group buy, then please let me know. Reading the other thread, £335 is a lot for a courier to deliver one hard top (especially if you then have to pay to get it painted), but it might not be too much more to get a number of them shipped over here and split the costs?

deka - who did you use as the courier?

Andy - if you do decide to bring a van load back, can you please let me know?

Philip

I did try a group buy and had a quote from another courier who would have given me a group discount.. You have to remember that the box is 150x160x160 cm and weighs 60 kg so its not a small box and you would need a very large van.

I went to shipley you put your details in and couriers bid for the work a bit like ebay except the cheapest (and with the best feedback) wins, fed ex wanted thousands..

Another guy on here has been asking me about the one i brought back so if you go for a group buy he may join you..

If you interested to approach the courier who would do a group pickup and then a local uk delivery let me know and i will dig it out.

+ you do get the bmw 2 year warranty as well

Looking at the listing again, it seems that they have got some new colours in stock (including Monaco Blue - which means that I wouldn't have to budget for a respray!)

Prices have also been reduced to €599 (about £480, with the weakened euro) for most colours, although some, including Monaco Blue, are still €799 (about £640). The full list of colours now available:

  • Merlotrot (€599)
  • Toledoblau (€599)
  • Maledivenblau (€599)
  • Monacoblau Metallic (€799)
  • Hellrot (€599)
  • Tiefgrun Metallic (€799)
  • Flamencorot metallic (€599)
  • Montegoblau Metallic (€799)
  • Blau Metallic II (€799)

I also suspect that a courier (especially if split between 2 or more purchasers) would be cheaper than collecting it yourself, if you factor in petrol, channel crossing, hotels, etc. Delivery is "free" in Germany, so it may be possible to get the tops delivered somewhere that would reduce the distance for the couriers (Andy mentioned Aachen), possibly reducing courier charges as well.

Before I explore this further, and ask Deka to search out the courier that he used, would anybody else be seriously interested in joining in a group buy?

Just to point out to anyone bidding, hardtops do have some interior lock cover parts, which are no longer sold in the UK. If you dont get them with the hardtop, the locking mechanisms will always be on show, and they dont look great.

My tuppence worth - the seller doesnt know his product very well

What was the buying process ect...

just hit buy it now. I sorted out a courier using shipley.com once i found one for a fair price (if i had lived on the south coast i would have driven but it was winter when i got mine)

i then i hit buy it now and arranged the pickup with the guys in Germany, they do speak/write good english.

My courier was delayed a few weeks due to other commitments but they were happy to wait.

They even help him load it into his van and he delivered a couple of days later. simple really

I Used this supplier and was more than happy.
it came in the same packaging as shown on the other thread, and all the parts - Cover, interior covers and key were in a small parts bag inside.

if you need a place to pick this up from, i live 2 hours inside the german Border, between Dortmund and Hannover. Pm me if you need any help.

OK - I've registered at shiply.com and asked for the cost of getting 1 hard top from Munich to my house. If I get any sensible quotes, then I'll ask whether (a) a pick-up closer to the UK would be cheaper (so Nathanhu, you may be getting a PM from me!) and (b) whether the cost per box is significantly cheaper if they were to transport more than one. I'll report back ...

Philip

When looking at doing a group purchase Jonen Shipping Ltd were willing to do a deal....

i tried everywhere when i was looking even ups who wanted about 5k

Thanks - I have now registered with AnyVan as well as Shiply. I'll see what they come up with before I try Jonen (but, based on your experience, I'll give UPS a miss!)

Sorry to trouble you again deka, but can you confirm the measurements of the box? I've had a response on AnyVan querying it, and looking at the picture I can understand that it's 160cmx160cm (WxD), but is it really 150cm High?

Many thanks.

It's a big old box, I was quite surprised that it was delivered so cheaply

I spoke to the rep before I bought mine and I believe that they have taken all the old stock from BMW

I've had 3 quotes so far - all on AnyVan (none on Shiply). They are for £280, £249 and £225.

£225 plus about £650 for the roof means that I get a brand new, correct colour, hard top (with 2 year guarantee and all the correct bits) delivered to my door for £875. Makes some of the second-hand sales on eBay look very expensive.

I think I might go for it ...

Philip sorry for the lateness, yes those are the correct dimensions its huge....

surprised at shipley as they were good for quotes... nice one with the 225 thats a good price and with the price of a new top thats a result......

Hi Andy

I haven't asked the question yet.

Tomorrow evening I am planning to continue with my MediaBridge install (now that I've found a photo of how to remove the positive terminal from the battery!), but once I've had enough of that, I'll ask all the couriers for their price for multiple boxes. Based on that, I may post the deal as a "group buy", as I'm sure that there may be people who would be interested but who haven't been following this particular thread.

One issue may be that we'd need multiple drop-offs in the UK, as most people would want them delivered to their home (and even if they were willing to come down here to collect them, I would have nowhere to store them).
