Believe it or not, I wasn't actually looking for one - Was parked up having a coffee not long after I got the Zed, and I was approached by a taxi driver who asked me if the car was mine... After telling him "no, I've just stolen it" he told me he had a hardtop, after selling his own Zed. He was "willing" to "let it go" for £500, I told him I wasn't interested at that money, so I let him drive away... He came back 2 mins later asking what I would be willing to pay - Big mistake....

I told him I had £300 in my pocket and would take it now at that price, he only lived a mile away from where I was parked..

Right place, right time and all that.

As the saying goes 'There's always one!"

I'll get the prize for paying the most, hehe, bought a maldives blue mint for £950, Paid £30 juice to pick it up and then paid £780 to get the window removed and resprayed by BMW in house bodyshop! That's £1,760!!! Could've bought a new one for that! Looks really nice, doesn't leak and makes me realize I should maybe take money more seriously. LOL!
The prize for the 'money no object, it has to conform to my exacting standards' goes to.......

They rarely sell here for £550-750. The last one for that money needed a respray, it had a few nasty deep scratches...And a cheap and cheerful back street blow over (without removing rear window) gonna cost at least £350.

For a mint condition sapphire black you're looking at around £850 upwards. The auctions may start around £550 but always
rise up to the £800-£900s.

Of course they have gone for less, will go for less but the majority go for more :)

I've watched a few go for that price. Obviously you pay more for a mint one. That's how the world works for everything. What I'm saying is if your patient hardtops come up at decent price, you have to move quick thou.

I sold mine a few weeks ago for £950, without the side covers...

Mike

I had to travel over 500 miles round trip and paid £950 for a Sapphire Black one (with side covers  )

For £950 you could of got a red one :poke:

Red looks good, but I wanted a contrasting black hardtop so was prepared to pay the price and travel for it

I have the original invoice for my one and I'm telling you, you couldn't have bought a new one for that  :o

Really? I'm intrigued, what would a brand spanking new one set you back? Assuming that BMW still made them...?

They were around £1500 new, I almost ordered one with my first Z but decided against it and was I glad about that decision. I would have never used it.

The last new ones from BMW went between £500 and £900 depending on the colour. Maldives / Merlot were the cheapest at the low end but that was because the colour was discontinued very early in the production cycle of the E85.

Found this in the BMW oem catalogue, a little bit more than £900
