Unfortunately my new car hasn't made it through it's pre purchase inspection... so I'll be holding onto this for a little while :-|
You know it makes sense. - I'm pleased for you in a funny sort of way as that car looked too good to go for £3.5k and too nice to be stripped !
Well I'm not bloody pleased! A chance to own a car I've always wanted, but I fear I may never buy one now. Just too problematic.
So what was it then - I know you gave a teaser but surely you can say now...?

Twas a 2005 997 Carerra 2S.

I'd read a lot of horror stories, but thought maybe, as usual, the internet was over-egging them. It seems not in this case.

The facelift is another 10/15k more, so that's well and truly out of the question at the moment.

What did it fail inspection on? Scored Bores

It was heavily suspected, and then the steering column adjustment had seized. Fix is a new column and is nigh on £1500 fitted.

So because the steering column issue existed, I was smart with my money and didn't pay for a borescope to confirm the bore score suspicion of scoring. (although they were fairly sure)

That's gutting news on the dream car buddy.

At least you had the foresight to have a pre-inspection done, many buyers avoid this and get stung days/weeks into their new ownership.

Heart breaking for sure but at least you've dodged a money pit.

Good luck with future searches if the Porsche is still on your radar.
