That Gtechniq G1 looks great stuff!-anyone tried it?-do you have to keep reapplying it?

Gtechniq claim between 20,000 and 30,000 miles per application, been considering some for myself. All the gtechniq products get good reviews on detailing world
Wow-impressive!

I thought I was the only one today suffering! I just stood there bemused when it wouldn't open... even my boot struggled to open.

I just poured a bit of water on the windows and it eventually opened....

I regret laughing at the salesman when he asked if i wanted a heated steering wheel.. :driving:

No, no special treatment. You have to follow the application instructions to the letter, but it's pretty simple.
I was out in my car last week, and it was raining for about 20 minutes...didn't use my wipers once !! :driving:

Heated steering wheel still requires you to buy gloves to get to the car and get from it so I don't regret skipping that option as I already had gloves! Could do with heated windows tho!

Problem with pouring water on is the situation will be worse next time it freezes :?
Before i discovered Gummi some years back our Touareg had a habit of freezing gasket on drivers door , did the usual warm water trick for a week or so , , only to worsen the situation as the door handle/lock mechanism started to freeze
I would go for the lube method , , since purchasing the ACF50 recommended by Z4M-2006 ive used this on all my rubber seals & think its better at staying "slippery" than the Gummi
For those with 89,s you could maybe apply a little to where the brush strip sits ?

I have the same problem with my 2011 Z4. Very annoying and the only thing that seems to work is to use the keyfob while standing outside to put the top down slightly so that I can open the door, get in, start the car, and then put the top back up. Looks ridiculous to start dropping the top in 20 degree weather but no other easy solution.

I picked up my z4 a year ago and had this problem just before Christmas. Got back to my car at the train station and unable to open the doors - was not even a particularly cold just a slight frost. Since then it has been into two dealers - first said it was a common problem so went back to dealer I purchased from who had car for a week. It was returned and then last week we had two days of temp hitting zero and exactly the same thing happened again -hard to get in and if I do the window then sits outside of the roof and I have a gap until it de-ices enough to allow me to drop the window. Spoke to dealer and they are not prepared to do anything more as not a fault! Spoke to BMW customer services who were nice but no real help!

Ermmm your dealer had your car for a week for a problem you can easily sort yourself? as said previously just run some rubber lubricant around the door seals such a Gummi Pflege which should stop the problem re-occuring. Most cars with frameless windows will suffer the same, its not a fault.

Tim.

Thanks Tim - dealer has done this twice and has made no difference and my other half has frameless windows and no issue opening what so ever.
