Frozen out!

Yes my E89 froze out this morning and it was just -1 celcius ...we have another week of this in southern England! I have to say my very old E36 does this too and eventually it stopped my drivers door mini-dropping! I used to get Gummi- Pflege and it didn't help with the E36 but have tried it with my Z4 this evening - I suspect it'll have to be warm water in the morning again?!

After reading this Iv'e Gummi- Pflege my wife's Ford Focus CC as she has been using defroster spray  around the window before trying to open the door as the windows drop a little.

Was just reading this thread last week and didn't think it would be a problem for me as it wasn't last year.

But my battery died a few days ago and this evening I thought I would go out and jump start it.

But the key lock was frozen to begin with, so it would not even accept the key. The rest of the door was frozen as well.

Luckily the passengers side was unlocked and I managed to get it slightly open and then managed to tug it open with my fingers around the door frame.

Didn't help my original problem though because the Halfords brand booster would not jump start the car.
Now even the key is stuck in the ignition and won't release because the battery is deader than dead.

I would boost it with my 3 Series but could not find the cables in the dark.
Anyway, I noticed a Noco GB40 1000A booster on sale and ordered that instead.

Damned winter!

This happened to me several times. Usually I use a .010 " thick brass shim and insert and go around the edge to break the ice seal. Works pretty well.

Simply move to a house with a nice snug warm garage.
Or move to the Westcountry, don’t get much frost in the Torbay area. :poke:

Too many tourists in summer - at least they just drive past Buzyg's on the way to somewhere nicer :)

Got the Noco Boost Gb40.
Charged it fully and took it out to the car.

Systems powered on. Car attempted to start 3 times, almost did so and then the Noco was dead.

Eventually I hooked up my 3 Series, started the 3 series and waited.

Within a few minutes, the lights came on and dash powered up. Switched off the lights and aircon and waited 25 mins and then started.

Left it running about 1hr then drove it around the block and parked it closer and hooked up a charger. It showed 12.6 Volts, so that was reassuring.

Have left it on trickle charge.

Damn winter!!

Well I decided to do a little experiment. A few week ago I applied gummy pledge all around the edges of my drivers door window and other rubber areas that freeze the door shut. I didn't do anything to the passenger door. As luck would have it, we are in the middle of a bomb cyclone. Current temperature is 8 degrees F. The passenger door is frozen shut. The gummy pledge drivers door is perfect.

All the rubbers need gummi pflege, anyway. If it stops the windows sticking, so much the better. If it doesn't, I don't know what will.
