Frozen out of the car!!

Went to get into my car and I couldn't open the door this morning because both side windows were frozen shut and wouldn't do the normal drop before the door opens! Hardly used the car this week as commuting locally and obviously any water that had got into the window seals had just frozen solid!

It was around -6 over night, but still, good job it wasn't my only car! Didn't have time to put much time into de-frosting as had to be somewhere! We had to take the missus MINI!

Got home and no probs now!

It's a pain this stuff, but little you can do about it.

I have similar issues with the X5 that if it drops to well below zero and I don't use the car for a day or so then the locks freeze inside the door and even if I can open the doors they won't lock closed.

Happily the Zed lives in the garage so that's always ready to roll.

Dust a bit of Talcum powder on the top of the weather seal, will keep the windows from sticking and won't "grease" the windows when you put them down, if you do get a bit of ice build up then use a plastic card [like a credit card] to slide between the window and weather seal

good tip - thanks

I found gummipfledge spray to help prevent freezing of the door rubbers - bmw sell it at the parts counter and its handy to keep all the rubbers in good condition too :D

Gummi Pfledge is great stuff. I use it on my window/door surrounds. It was -2 this morning and my window had firmly stuck to the seal. After a bit of persuasion it did free itself though.

Some good tips.

To be honest I've given up on the Z4 in this weather at the moment! I'm just using the old Terrios 4x4. Not so bad if someone slides into that (had a near miss yesterday morning at some traffic lights!!).
