Front Wheels Jolt When Braking

Hi All,

Has anyone experienced and fixed the following issue?

When I press on the brakes a little too quickly there is a clunk that can be heard, and the steering wheel jerks a little bit. This only happens for the initial brake pedal travel and it doesnt matter the speed that I am going, its almost as if this is the start of the brakes biting. It also only happens when the car is traveling forward. If i start braking very lightly to go past the initial brake pedal travel that this jolt happens and then slam on the brakes, the jolt isnt felt and there is no clunk. This makes me think it is a braking issue and not something else.

I will need to jackr the car most likely to fix the problem, but i wanted to know if anyone has had these issues, that way i can be aware of things to look for, mainly is this a brake system problem (maybe the lines need to be bled, or brake pads, and calipers re-installed) or loose bushings and suspension system, or something else.

Any help is appreciated!

I had a similar issue, it was a broken near-side front ARB bush housing! Worth a check, if it is, it will be obvious!

Defo sounds like control arm bush. Give this a check ASAP. Mine failed at speed on the M3....something you definitely don’t want to experience!

As they said, lollypop Control arm bushes have to be a good bet, and have a look for oval ARB bushes whilst you are under there. Neither are particularly tricky jobs if you have basic kit
