Front Tyres Rubbing

I have an '03 E85 with non-standard alloys. They are 18x8" alloys with et34 which i realise makes them 13mm further out than the stock wheels. The tyres are 225/40/18. I have the usual rubbing on the inner liner on the front wheels when I go into a dip at speed and sometimes at full lock in reverse (but not forward). I have no issues with the rear wheels. I have read the threads on here about the subject but can someone confirm that fitting 215/40/18 tyres will/should solve the issue - or is it not as simple as that? Thanks

I can confirm 215s do the trick. I had 8Js on the front and that solved my problem. May have even been 35s over 40s if I remember correctly.

Hi TimO. Almost certainly your tyres will be rubbing because your shock absorbers are ineffective or even inoperative. I see your car is '03 reg so if it is on its original Sachs shocks then they will be well past their best. I have MV3s fitted on my Z4 which are 18 x 8J et34 on the front, 225/40 R18 tyres and SE springs. Mine used to rub identically as yours does until I fitted new Bilstein B4s all round in spring 2018. They have never rubbed since. My car is '03 and the original Sachs were absolutely shot with only 1 front one offering any damping at all.
Don't waste your money on smaller front tyres, put it towards a set of B4s and not only cure the bottoming out and tyre rubbing but also transform the ride, poise and handling of your car
