Front tyre wear

I know the tyres get odd wear and it's more on the inner edge. But I thought it was the rears. Is it also the case for the fronts?
It's about 1 inch on the inner oof the tyre on both sides that's noticeable. The rest of the tyre is really good so it would be annoying to have I replace it early. Maybe I should get the tracking looked at?

Mine was in for MOT the other day and my front tyres are the same as you describe, 1" of wear on the insides more noticible than the rest of the tyre, although mine havent got much life left at all on them.

Going to get the tracking/alignment looked at asap as they need to be replaced so will be done at the same time.

I'm on Falken 452's, at 32psi at the front if that makes any odds!

Cool can you let me know if there is any issue as mine are the same falkens. Pressures etc.
I've had other cars that have been off and worn odd but not like this. Usually it's one wheel more and not such a thin band.

Maybe it's just unique to BMWs I was warned and this is just summat new for me. You live and learn and all.

If its normal that's no problem but my tyres have loads of life in them but them at this point it's much worse. I recon I'll have to chuck the tyres with plenty if wear in them still cos of this. I guess it's an excuse to put the on the rear and find a quiet place :)

Anyone know a reliable wheel place in Liverpool?

It's normal. They all do that especially 18" rims. It's the camber angles they are set at,front and rear. You need to learn to not just look at the outer edges of the tyres when whecking the depth, tuen the wheel to fulllock and check the inner. I changed mine with nearly 4mm on the meat of the tyre but 1 - 1.5mm on the inner edge, they'd done 27k so I was pretty happy with that.

It was only becuse i did check the whole tyre that i noticed the difference. i have no idea how you get 27K out of a tyre i guess tho these arnt the driven wheels so shouldnt wear as quick unlike in a front wheel drive car.

if its how they go then not to worry al beit a little annoying that you esentially throw away 1/2 a tyre if you see what i mean. thanks

I found with the OEM Bridgestones RFT the fronts wear on the outer edge and the rear wear on the inner edge, as long as the centre 75% of the tyre in the middle has tread you are fine. If unsure get the tape measure out so you have backup if they fail it. To be honest though if outer edge is worn away that likely means the tyres are 2 -3 years old with regards to the fronts and you will find by replacing them it transforms the car and the rubber gets hard with age and heat cycling. I found most of the vibration at motorway speeds was caused by the old tyres as the fronts seem to go on forever in terms of staying legal.

I go through 2 sets of rears to every set of fronts,if that helps.Quite common on powerful rear wheel drive cars. The opposite of frontdrive.
