Front Tweeter Speakers

Hello all, I've just got a 2012 28i SDrive M Sport and noticed there are no tweeters in the top of the front doors near the wing mirror location.
The speaker frets are there, but no speakers behind.
Is this normal, was it an upgrade to have tweeters, or could they have been removed?
Any advice would be great, thanks

Jump to the 2 minute mark on this video and I explain it all

Just do it 😊

Do watch Dave’s video though. He inspired me to do it (amongst all the other upgrades I’ve done and he’s helped with).

I also bought the Same Same but different B&O tweeters off AliExpress fitted them a few weeks ago and IMHO it improves the sound experience for what is relatively little money and easy to do.

Yes i fitted the BO speakers and made a lot of difference. In my case the original speakers sounded like they were outside the car!
Just ordered a pair for the rear.
I'm sure there are also tweeters for sale.

I also fitted tweeters to the two rear speakers. There is a location for them if you look. Not sure if i had to cut out the blanks.

The BO speakers i find are themselves a bit tweeter-rish.
I would not want them as a sole speaker in a home hifi, the mids seem to be missing, but that just might be the recordings i have, no softness to them. You can certainly hear crackles on those recording that were taken from say record, you hear the scratches.
I await to see if fitting rears might bring some mid.
It feels like it needs another mid speaker in each door..
I have fitted the subwoofers.

Yeah you do have to cut the rear tweeter holes. I did this for my 676 retrofit, and they do make a difference for that.
Saying that there is a whole new dynamic when you code 676 in, as it sets it all up for the separate subwoofers etc. When I had the standard setup, and had fitted the door tweeters, someone suggested that i should code in 676 for the better tweeter response, so I coded it and lost the bass response so it was coded out again as it just didn't sound right at all. Then once I'd fitted all of the new speakers I turned it on without coding it, and it had a heavy bass, then once I coded in 676 it all came together properly and sounded right, you could even hear the rear speakers properly, which you can't in the standard system.
Hooe that makes a bit of sense for how it works
