Front tire size/Bumper care

Hello all,
I need to change my front tires and I was thinking of going with e different size than 225. Reason being, that the car is too low and I've allready had many chips on the front bumper...What tire sizes have you been using? Is it a good idea to go with a 235 or should I stick with factory requirements?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum

Am I missing something here... 225 is the tyre width - how would increasing that raise your car :?

Increasing the profile the /xx part of the specification would surely change your overall wheel size and therefore throw out speedo measurements etc?

Someone more knowledgeable will probably be along shortly :D

Sorry for the confusion...I just got the car 3 months ago. I meant that my front tires are lower profile. The rear ones are a lot thicker. So, should I go with a 225/55 instead of a 225/35? wouldn't that make any difference? The car is a 2005 Z4 3.0i with 18's
Thanks

They are probably the same profile, just the rear wheels and tyres are wider so the profile is different to make them the same diameter...

that doesnt make sense does it! I meant the distance between ground and wheel edge is the same... but the rear tyres are wider so the profile reading is different...

Lets just say that the rear tires look much thicker( distance between rim and the ground is maybe 2-3cm than the front wheels...) What tire sizes do you use?
thanks

You are right about that, those are the sizes that I gor recomended at tirerack.com. Now, would it be a good idea to use the same tires for front and rear or would it affect performance, handling, etc..

Thanks for the info mate, I think that I will keep the current sizes then... I've been thinking about getting a "bumper protector" which they go for about $100. Are you familiar with those? Do they really protect the lower part of the front bumper?
thanks :D

If you want the car to handle optimally, use the size developed. A lot of folks have simply changed from RFTs to non RFTs.

225/40 and 255/35 are the SAME profile. The second set of numbers is the ration of height to width so the tires are the same "height".

Stone chips on the bumper or under the "chin" where no one will see them? If on the bumper, you need to not follow the vehicle in front of you so closely.

I changed to non-runflats and I like it better that way. As far as the bumper, I think I hit it hard one day coming out of the garage and now its a little loose...I tried to fix it by myself but I think I will take it the professionals...
Here is the bumper guard I was talking about: http://64.225.94.154/ShopSite/product290.html
Do you think it is worth it?
thanks

I don't. Just be careful when parking.

Thanks to all of you for replying.
Unfortunately I livein Chicago, which arguably has the worst roads in the USA. I don't park on the street, and most of the times that the bumper gets all scuffed up is at various ramps all over the city( gas stations, etc) no matter how slowly you drive through them...
I will do some more research on that front bumper guard and see if it worth it...

instead of messing around with your cars tyres just modify your driving, my car is alot lower than standard due to the suspesion set up i have and i don't have a problem....
