Front suspension strut

I have sign of oil leaking on the offside strut- are they difficult to change and does all the suspension geometry need to be reset when changed?

they are easy to change if you know what your doing, id say and hour n half taking it REALLy slow.... the geo will need to be reset.

Make sure you replace the struts in pairs unless they are under about 10,000 miles old. Replacing a single strut will give different side-to-side damping characteristics if they don't have a similar amount of wear on them.

Shoudn't do. BMW don't do it when changing out a strut. I had it done for piece of mind and it was spot on.

Hi,

I agree with Aliv6..steering geometry should be OK, you will need spring compressers to do this job.

There is a how to do post somewhere on here !

I had some (spring comp.) and it took me hours...the shape of the spring bows out in the middle not all spring compressers will work mine didn't so I had to improvise :(

Id be hugely suprised if removing a complete strut wouldn't require a geo reset....Remember ther is small camber adjustments made by simply sliding the tops of the struts with the bolts loosened, I would defo say geo will more than likely need resetting.... If u don't need to, perfect but that's very lucky!!!

I also questioned it and BMW told me on the job card there was no requirement for Geo set up.

I took it to a local place i use and it was spot on, at the end of the day it's a std shocker (mass produced), holes don't allow for camber change.

Worth a geo for piece of mind i suppose.

You can change the camber by sliding the bolts but you can use the pins to ensure it's set to factory.

yeah i agree, the standard setup does however have a small amount of adjustment in them in terms of camber....and with the pins removed you can get upto -1.5ish with bone stock items....
