Hi chaps just doing a few things inside car when a big crash and one side off car dropped after inspection found that front sprig broke how weak was this and had it have happened on country road well dont bear thinking about . My question is how much work is involved and what parts would I need apart from springs which I saw on europarts sachs 176 pounds a pair don't know if they are any good dont want to spend fortune but want it good standard any thoughts would be grateful many thanks mac. P.s limited knowledge on cars .

Hi Mac

When you say that the front spring is broken , do you mean the whole shock absorber ? If it was just the spring then the car wouldn't have dropped. The replacement of the front shock is relatively simple assuming you have the correct jacks and axle stands. There are loads of online instructional videos on you tube which should point you the right way

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/BMW_Z4M/107-SUSPEN-Front_Strut_Replacement/107-SUSPEN-Front_Strut_Replacement.htm article on strut replacement but it shows the springs

Having just done a shock/spring/bush/arm refresh on my front suspension, the replacement of shocks and springs is really simple.

The process is fairly obvious once you get the wheels off, just make sure you replace everything in pairs, use spring compressors, and support the car properly.

You might want to look at Eibach springs, I think they cost me around £200 for a set of 4, if you need shocks too then go for a branded set, I used Bilstein but they were £600 a set and I can't imagine you want to be spending that much.

Where are you based??
Another forum member might be willing to help you.

Hi chaps thanks for advice was looking for perhaps someone local to me who could probably do the job a mobile mechanic I'm based in west Bromwich west midlands so if anyone out there fancies helping would be grateful

I've never worked on cars before but managed to fit bilstein v12 suspension and new springs all round just by following you tube videos.

Don't think I could find many working on a z but the e46 is the same.

Did it a few hrs a night.
