Front spacer worry...

I've been going over spacer research in another 'revived' thread. but I'd like to put this specific question out there before I commit to buying my 15mm spacers.

Has anyone run 15mm spacers on the front of an E85 with 8J rims and lowered suspension (B12 kit or stock sports suspension)
I'm running 107 elipsoids

If you've run this set up did you have any problems with the front tires rubbing on the insides of the arches with the steering on full lock?

Think "Bing" did on his previous Si roady & i think they did rub very slightly ?
Assuming 18inch wheels you can always solve the problem with 215 40 tyres which will fit fine on a 8j rim

Changing tires is £££s. I'm running 225/40 I guess I could go down to a 12mm on the front or even 10.

Let's see what feedback we get. Thanks for the reply

Just posted this in the other thread thats running on spacers at the moment. its about my experience with 15mm on the front thus far.

"Yes a little on the front but only on the largest bumps. This was greatly reduced by placing the wheel arch liner behind the front bumper instead of in front of it. I know that might not make sense but if you look at your car you will see what I mean. Its still there though a little on road humps/ big dips etc. However I am running M spec tyres which are a little taller than standard and my geo is out at the moment since fitting new front wishbone bushes. I not used the car much at all over winter, its done something like 30 miles since November and I have been holding off doing the geo until I get the B12 on there. I was waiting to see once the kit is on and I have manipulated the arch liner with a heat gun if I could still get away with 15mm on the front or if i need to move to 12 or 10mm"

I've seen this one: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=641638#p641638
Yes it's incredibly old but I'm sure 15mm will rub ever so slightly unless you move the arch liner as MACK says.

I've got staggered 107 ellipsoids on mine, running OEM tyre sizes, 225/40 & 255/35. Fitted 15mm front and 20mm rear spacers a few months ago, and have zero problems with rubbing. My car also has the "M Sport" suspension.

Maybe there is a slight difference between pre and post facelift models?

Mike I noticed a lot of people who add spacers go for more narrow front ones, is this the thing to do? as this changes difference between front and rear track from oem I was wondering if it affects understeer or handling in any way as I'm in the process of buying 20mm spacers all round.

Haven't noticed any negatives with my 15/20 setup, in fact the car actually feels more planted. Remember the OEM 107/108's are staggered anyway, so the rears are already wider than the fronts. From what I've read, you might struggle with 20's on the front, as it is tight with 15's, although mine have been fine.

Ah ok cheers, my car isn't lowered, and the guy I'm buying them off had them on his car with mv2s which are same size width and offset as my 108s so hopefully it'll be fine.

Why not test it out? From what what I recall you run 10mm all round? Double them up on the front and see how you get on? Obviously not ideal but everyday driving and you'll know if you have immediate clearance issues on the front.

Have never run spacers on my current car, have missed out on a few sets here.

20's won't fit, though it was kind of obvious. Thast why people going 12/15 or 15/20 etc...

Ok. I've finally decided to go with 15s rear and 10s front.
I don't want any added work with heat guns etc, and I'm far to OCD to put up with rubbing however slight it may be. :|
I'm sure 10mm on the front will be ok and the 15s on the back. I just want a subtle mod.
Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I'm looking forward to meeting forum members and seeing their cars at the meet in August

20mm all round do fit, perfectly with no rubbing on full lock at all (standard sport suspension).
