Front shocks.
I'll start off by saying this forum has been amazing for the maintenance of my 04 z4 I have probably saved thousands in the year and a bit I've owned my z changing belts tensioners, alternator and even the power steering motor, but one job I kept putting off due to maybe it been to advanced for me or not wanting to buy more tools I'll only ever use once was replacing the front shocks.
So when I got the car it was an advisory for light misting, having been under the car alot I think light misting was putting it generously they were leaking, the car didn't seem to suffer handling it felt like a harsh ride but I had nothing to compare to but figured original shocks on a 100,000 mile car have done well and are probably past there best so i got my local garage to change them.
When I picked up the car they showed me my old shocks and they were both at the bottom of there travel and you could move them up and down with your fingers they had no damping whatsoever and the top strut mount on one side had perforated nearly all the way round it was primed ready to come flying out the bonnet at some point that's how bad it was.
The car now handles so much better and is nowhere near as harsh it's completely transformed the car so my advice to anyone with a car of my age and mileage don't hesitate to change the shocks especially if they are original like mine were.
