Front shock spring perch

One of my front shocks is shot so I am about to replace them for Bilstein B6 to match the rears that i replaced a short while ago.

Ive ordered the new shocks but they dont appear to come with the spring perch at the top of the shock? The part looks exactly like the following link (I didnt order from here) - https://www.bilstein-shocks.co.uk/products/22-104892

Do i just recycle the perch from the current shocks, I'm not 100% how good their condition is or how easy they are to remove? Does anyone know where to get new perchs from? Pictures of the B6 seem to include the perch but it seems this particular part number does not, similarly, real OEM shows the perch and shock as a single BMW part. Any ideas for a solution?

Hi Adam. I fitted B4s last year and my spring top plates were in excellent condition so I just cleaned them up and refitted them. Take a look here on RealOEM :

Thinking of doing mine but how hard is it to do the front yourself

You'll want some decent spring compressors, the springs aren't very long so the ones I had didn't pull close enough together, I ended up using a floor mounted hydraulic strut compressor.

Watch this video from 10m30sec. It's on an E46 but pretty much all applies to E85. All you need to know.

Thanks will take a look . I’ve been quoted £150 by my local garage to do this . Is it worth doing yourself then

Is that £150 labour to fit shocks you are supplying ? If you have all the tools and ability then it's worth doing yourself, peace of mind also. If not then £150 seems reasonable providing they do a proper job. It'll need tracking/alignment afterwards don't forget

I will be doing mine on my Z4M so I will try and take some photos

Also the top bearing housing are of unknown conditions so I will be ordering some new ones

The new bits from BMW comes to £166 and the B12 kit £824

Yes that’s labour only. Not sure whether to do the rear bushes on the rear shocks as well

If you post the real OEM part number I will when I have time post the price from BMW that I got in Manchester

Thanks all, new shocks fitted today and the perches and top mounts were fine to be refitted so that saved some hassle.
