Front PDC

On the Real OEM site there is a diagram showing what appears to be a modified front registration plate holder, incorporating 4 PDC sensors.
I have searched everywhere (apart from a BMW dealer!) but can't see one for sale anywhere. I haven't noticed any used cars listing the device as being fitted either.

Does anyone know if this is still available as a retrofit item, either in the UK or overseas? This would be quite a useful mod.

I asked a very closely related question several days ago to see if anyone had ever fitted them to the front.

74 viewings and not a comment yet..... :(

I can see the part your refer to on various BMW sites 66 21 0303 093 and its not indicated as a deleted item.

I'm in BMW tomorrow so will ask them

Thanks for the reply.
A system that mimics the rear PDC set up would proberbly function and look better than the set-up depicted on Real OEM, but this looks really easy to install.

Checked with BMW this morning at the plate / PDC is available in the UK

You need retrofit kit 66 21 0 303 093 at £150 and backing plate 66 21 0 397 620 £11.81. Both prices inc. VAT. Backorder to Germany so UK delivery is 10 days

I'm told it's a full retrofit kit with the required wiring, etc.

I suggest you double check for your specific model/year

Hope this helps

Interesting... I wonder where it hooks up to? With there not being a front PDC on any Z4 model I wouldn't've thought there would be anywhere to put it... unless there is some kind of pass through connector to the rear one, but it doesn't look like it from the diagram.

Yes sp3ctre

I'd want to be sure of what it links into, however the guy in parts (and what do they know on less common components) said it would have all the wiring and bits needed as being a retrofit kit you get everything needed to do the job in the 'box'.

Their system did not specify the need for rear PDC.

What I need to do if and when I get time is to find the retrofit instructions as that would detail the process and give a good indication of what has to be done.

Yeah... and I'd want to see a pic before buying too... if it's somewhat "stealth" I may be interested.

How would you prevent a front PDC going off when in traffic??

My rears got stuck on recently and everytime I stopped and car pulled up behind it beeped the hell out of me!!

Don't tailgate, I expect ;)

How do other cars with PDC manage it?

Real easy - I have PDC on the X5

PDC is activated only once reverse gear is engaged. From that point on it operates on front or rear until the vehicle reaches 8mph. So yep 1) if you park in forward you could hit an object and 2) if you pull away into traffic the front or rear will go off if anyone is close

Clever BMW therefore fitted an overide switch on the centre console so you can switch them on or off at will.

cj10jeeper, many thanks for posting that up. I'm surprised this isn't fitted when the rear PDC is installed. I find judging the location of the Z4 nose is trickier than the rear.

I just need to justify blowing £160 now!......But it has been months since any mods were done.......and the visibility deteriorates now that we approach autumn......and...

By the way, did the parts person mention any programming requirement? It seems that everything added to the car apart from the fuel needs programming in.

No mention of programming. You can just as easy now pick up the phone to BMW ask about supply and fit, price, what it entails, etc. If it's an hours labour it's plug and play 5 hours a major strip down and install.
As mentioned before I need to find the fitting instructions (or someone else point me to them)

In terms of having PDC I like the idea. I fitted an '06 front and I keep going too far towards kerbs when parking (not touched yet). Partly as I drive and X5 and a couple of Jeeps so when the tyres hit it's parked...lol

My wife also keeps threatening to park it in the garage - well I already have a groove in a freezer from a prior car she parked for me so it may well be a sensible investment
