Front Parking Sensor and AE with Custom Buttons

Pawnsacrifice,
apologees.. I wasn't trying to take anything away, I admire the fact you went the extra mile, it just showes how easy I am that I'd go the lazy man route

Not a bit of it, never occurred to me - I had gone through the thought process you mentioned - it's a valid question. To be honest I don't think your suggestion is a lazy route - I think it's the config on the E89, if you don't have them as DRLs, but I could be wrong there. My "tough audience" comment was aimed (jokingly) at aquazi saying it would have been nice if I'd made it speed de-activating

Seriously impressive work Matt, top job :)
Thanks - forgot to mention, thanks for your pointers on the electrical stuff, that's what my ramblings have been over the last couple of months

So .. I guess you are never going to have heated seats then :)
I did think about that, but I'd just move the parking sensor button - my original plan was to modify the switch with the hazard light and central locking buttons - basically halve the size of the massive hazard switch to allow three buttons across.

Thanks for the headup on the sensor - it's actually quite good, I'm getting the knack of using it, it's no where near as versatile as the BMW kit, but at the price and for the clean bumper look, a great find

Moffmo, you're not wrong there! I have a desk job :( But, it pays for the hobby :)

I have to take the bumper off again from the Polo, as I only seem to get detection from one side at the moment.

Then again, I did not tape it all the way across like you did, which is probably where I went wrong and the heat / cold / wet has taken its toll and I have probably lost half the tape or so ...

Ha... I put the tape across on your recommendation. I was about to use silver duct tape that I have a big roll of, luckily I saw that the silver interferes with the signal, whereas the black helps protect against any interference from the metal bumper. I have only run mine along the centre section so I need to test how well it works on the corners.

Yes, I remember mentioning it after I put it all back together and was thinking about the stickyness of it (which seemed ok), but as you could tape it as per instructions in case there was metal nearby, I thought at the time that I should have done that to ensure it remained in place.

I assume the rear is more vulnerable to dirt then the front anyway.

 Great work and a great result! wish I one had the balls to attempt such a job and two the skill set!

I can only echo everyone elses comments, seriously impressive stuff.

Would I be right in thinking when you de-ambered the front headlights you did so by the cj10 method? So putting in the AE was just a case of taking them apart again or have you found some secret method of installing AE into sound unfettled headlights? Or have I missed something somewhere.

seriously impressive stuff!

Can you knock up 100 sets supplied and fitted at £20 each for a group buy? Once 20 of us have ordered could you drop the price to £14.99 :)

Wow - this is brilliant work! Can't add any more to what's already been said - the results speak for themselves.

10 out of 10. :D

Amazing work pawnsacrifice - your level of patience and innovation are qualities I think few of us will ever develop ! group discounted buy and fitting sound an excellent idea..... and if you do manage that you might have to invent time travel too . . . I don't think we should rule that out eiither

Thanks all for your kind words.

Slightly surprised some of you thought this was ballsy. Not to detract from something I personally feel is a big achievement (for me! I was so happy when it was done :D ), but a lot of this isn't as hard as you may think, taking everything slowly.

CJ had already done the headlight splitting and made that sound achievable, and I know others have done it since. Not sure which AEs CJ used, but speaking to gookah, he'd already proven the ones I used on his car.

I think the scary part for me was the electrics, but I asked questions, lots of them, online and in the real world!

Also, I already owned one of these...

bought one of these...

...added a red and a black wire with crocodile clips on the end and I could practice everything in the comfort of my living room before starting on the car. It also allowed me to hook up my multimeter to check the amps on everything.

I used LEDs to test the connections in the car before trying with the big stuff.

The other key was checking and double checking everything at every step of the way.

A few of you said that the front parking sensor would be useful - that could be a very easy job with a locking push or rocker switch.

One added bonus from all of this, that I found when I had the trim off above the pedals, I had a footwell light in the trim and the associated power cable behind the panel. So I now have footwell lighting as well :)

Would be good to have been able to link the parking sensors to the speed sensor so they automatically go on under say 5Mph.
 Tough audience.

You are competing with Mr BMW here :poke:

But in all seriousness i didnt mean to take anything away from your outstanding work... its well beyond my ability and patience.

Was only joking mate... I like the thinking, that would be proper OEM. Bosses Range Rover works on something like that, I keep switching it off manually as it won't shut up once I'm in a spot. That thing really needs them!

No - my eBay flukiness meant I was able to buy clear lights 2010: A year of mods! - Front Lights

I had to cut these to get the AEs, Mister Roger suggest I do it when I did the original project, but decided against it at the time. Wouldn't have been able to do it this way at the time, so pleased I waited.
