Front Number Plate

When I come to get my front bumper resprayed I'm going to need to fix or replace the front numberplate too as its peeling off at each end (i.e. its not stuck to the holder as a curve anymore).

How is the holder attached to the front bumper and whats the best way to remove? Ideally I want to remove, and drill it back onto the holder, or get a new holder and plate made up that's also screw attached.

IIRC the holder is attached using pop rivets.

Drive your Z without the front plate (keep it under your passenger seat. Car looks so much nicer without it

If the officer stops you tell him "I'm just on my way to get it mounted, the front was refurbished and they could not do it" try it anyway see how long the bliss might last.

(In North America there are several areas where a front plate is no longer necessary) how sweet is that

You're a legend Chris. Will do this once I get the bumper off for repsray. If it dies during surgery I'll drop you a line mate.

How have you achieved that then M44rrt? Is it on a light flexible plate and screwed or stuck on? Funnily enough, I do have a Craig's Plates sticker decal of my front numberplate which I ordered ages ago. Other than it being far from legal, I also wasn't sure it would look any good flush to the body. Maybe I'm wrong.

+1! You can always refit the holder if you dont like it. Would several of the standard sticky pads do the job? Would leave the plate looking cleaner.

Not a bad option. I'd need the right sticky pads but worth thinking about.

Sixspeed has no front plate and gets away with it. I wish i had the nuts to do the same as it looks much better. Only so many times plus the luck of the draw with who pulls you if you could get away with it.

i have mine screwed directly to bumper, i think it looks better pressed up to the bumper opposed to hanging off the bracket!

Have one here, Just not sure on the look but prob worth a try. If I don't like it I can always refit the plastic mount again.

I had no plate for about 9 months and just kept getting grief from it :thumbsdown:

Plus I tried attaching straight to the bumper and it looked really naff.. although the one above looks ok in that pic.

After going full circle it's not back in it's holder...

Two screws holds mine in place. They are through the blue line number surround so they are not to noticeable.

I hate the black holder... i got wax on mine months ago and it still has it on it!

Flush fitting a non vinyl plate the body is doable.. i did that on my old s2k.... which has a deeper curve then the z4.

You will need a heatgun/ hair driver.... heat the plate up and bend it to the contour of the bumper. Once cooler it will keep its form.. then use some 3m doble sided pads.
