Hi folks

Does anyone have a front number plate plinth for the M Sport model or pics of any number plate surrounds. Would like to see what it looks like.

Cheers

Hi - mines is the same and was just wondering if there was such a thing but after searching I'm not sure there is.

Has anyone tried surrounds ?? There's a few on fleabay with msport/BMW logo but not sure if they're for me.

Cheers

I am more annoyed that the plate is screwed to the bumper at each corner meaning if I was to get a smaller plate (less digits) I couldn't shorten the plate without the holes being on show. :(

Mine is the same, two self-tapping screws directly into the front bumper.
Would have been nicer if it had been stuck on.
I've never seen a plinth for the front number plate, either on a car or on the internet.
Cheers, Dave

My experience is that if someone reverses into a number plate plinth, it's more likely to crack the bumper than if they do it to an unsupported plate, under which the bumper will flex a bit.

This assumes that the whack ain't of Parisian proportions, of course.

This is true. I've stuck mine on but even with extra strong 'stickies' the curve of the number is lifting slightly. I guess I could get a thinner plate made (alu or something lighter and legal) or I'll have to use screws into the existing holes...... :x

Heat the plate with a hot air blower and allow it to cool while it sits on a brick with a brick on either end. It will retain the curve and you'll not have the lifting problem.

Hiya, the previous owner of my car removed the plinth filled and painted where the holes were and fitted a sticker type plate and it looks the nuts, it went straight through the mot recently and wasn't even mentioned

Sounds like a plan

The hot air route sounds like a good 'un.

I use screws at each end and put a sticky foam pad in the lower half of the middle. This keeps the plate curved & rigid and pushes the lower half up slightly, so that the face is vertical.

Ive used it on previous cars and once cooled, the plate retains its curved set - there are no problems with the corners lifting.

When I bought the E89 last September, that was a specific request "Do NOT" fix the plates with self tappers and plastic caps.

If they are going to screw it on the least they could do is do it further towards the centre of the plate.
Ours has a screw at each corner, no way to put a shorter plate on without either the holes showing or the bumper being filled and repainted.

If you do the sums - the combined strength of those four bolts are quite significant and significantly more than enough to support a sheet of 3mm thick plastic!
