front license plate

in the state of CA (and perhaps others that I'm unaware of), it is illegal to not display a front license plate. unfortunately, i was unlucky enough to get one of these fix-it tickets.

i definitely am not thrilled about the idea of drilling. looking to tie it down to the front vent, but can't secure all four corners... and it so flaps, etc. not a fan of the "no hole kit"

any suggesions would be appreciated. thanks~

My state (WA) does require them but I have preferred to just take my chances and never put one on mine. I have managed to get away with this for the past 5 years now across 3 different cars and I work right across from the County Sheriffs Dept. and the Courthouse so law enforcement folks see me pretty regularly.

I run their computer networks so I often drive my Z4 right up to the precinct front door and so far no one has even commented on the plateless look.

I should probably add that if I had dark tinted windows and lowered my Z4 along with 19" wheels I would probably collect a new ticket just about every day with no front plate. Anyone who thinks the local gendarmes don't profile is not thinking clearly.

I wonder what is the rhetoric behind this lame law. While gangs are gunning themselves down with automatic weapons the law enforcement agencies in CA find nothing better than to harass drivers with no front license plate. :headbang:

I think some of it has to do with traffic cameras.

I took CoolZ4's idea and came up with this. Much the same, just a bit more stiff.

There is two blocks that are installed on the inside of the bumper that the two thumb screw into.

We have a friendly Z group here in SoCal you should join in on some of the fun.

I think it just one more of those laws that do-gooders, get passed that nobody is convinced is a good law and thus not enforced. Driving whilst yakking on the cell phone can get you a ticket in my state, but you can sit at any intersection you want and watch driver after driver talking on the phone. I think as more and more intersections are being controlled for red light runners you will see more emphasis being placed on having plates on the front and rear of all cars. My wife ran her Cadillac for over 4 years with no plate on the front, and I even parked in the State Patrol parking lot to talk to some of my old buddies and none of the troopers there said a thing. :)
