Front grille

Hi all

Some knowledgeable person will be able to answer this no doubt.

I've seen lots of E85's with black front grilles. Mine is the original (I think) grey/silver finish. is there a replacement black grille insert available or is it a spray job on or off the car.

the 3.0 had the greys the 2.0, 2.2. and 2.5 (and //M) all had black centres. Originals are available form bmw. Some do wait theirs but they will chip over time.

None of the OEM grilles are all black — the m had black slats and chrome surround. You can paint, but many just get them from eBay. About £45 IIRC.

Got my gloss black grills off flea bay a few years ago, as Bing has mentioned, about £45. My zed is a daily driver and the grills still look brand new

Do they come as separate parts or as a whole thing? I'm assuming the assembly just clips in as such!

They come as a unit but the chrome can be removed if needed. The grills themselves just pull/push to remove/fit.

I sprayed mine with black Plastidip spray a year ago and don't have any chips yet.

Also cheaper than the plastic Chinese ones on E-bay and if you don't like the blacked-out look or they get chipped or damaged you can peel it off and respray them as new again

I sprayed mine. Took lots of time rubbing down, top quality plastic primer, 5 coats, quality top coat 5 coats and lacquered 5 coats. No chips as yet.

Can you remove the chrome part completely. I don't mind the grey slats but the chrome is the only bit on whole car. Maybe I could just paint those bits.

Yeah just pop the grille out and ease off with the chrome have a look on this thread of mine there's pics of when I did it when repairing my baby.

I bought black Plastidip and Plastidip Glossifier on Ebay.co.uk I also sprayed the scuttle panel under the wipers which now looks brand new again.

My grills are the OEM ones that are spot on but I just fancied some black ones.

Nice little bargain there mate.
Get some pics up when fitted, a before and after or new alongside old would be appreciated if you think on when fitting them.
