Front grill change? Maybe not!

I thought I'd fit some black grills to get a more retro look. Standard is chrome with vertical struts in grey. Thought I'd try the matt black version but, though they fit nicely, I'm not sure :( . What do you guys think?

I was really pleased that my latest E86 came with matt black kidneys - they look great on a Silver Grey car IMHO, or Sterling Grey!

Standard for mine would have been black fins with chrome surrounds, which I don't think would have looked nearly as good.

BTW Lilly doesn't look too happy - is she jealous of the time you spend on your car?

Anyway as we all like photos on here this is how mine looks.

Looks great  . I think I'll leave them on for a bit & get some better photos. Else they'll be up for sale on here. Got to try these things though eh  .

Not the best pic of Lilly tbh. She's a really happy dog 99% of the time & loves the pub. She'd just heard that they're all to close tonight  .
This is her normal pose after a night out

They both look OK IMO but I'm partial to the chrome.
The black looks great on patriot66's car but his wheels are black too and it compliments them. What color are your wheels?

You could also combine both options: black surrounds and 3.0(s)i grey fins. I am running this combination both on my titanium silver roadster and on my space grey coupe. It is a bit of fiddling with the clips, but perfectly manageable if you do it slowly:

I’ve seen that somewhere before...

^

All black is just too much for me. Chrome surrounds on the other hand seem out of place as the Zs have no other chrome parts on the exterior (other than exhaust tips) ...

Standard silver wheels on mine. I agree the black grills do look good with black wheels though on patriot66's car.

:D Love that!
I must say I quite like the idea of a black surround with the grey fins. Not sure that my black grills will split apart though as they're on cheapo ones from fleabay. I shall investigate  .

I love this with the black and the number plate mount gone ... how did you stick the number plate to it, do the regular number plate stickers work for this ... looks to be rounded so thoughtt the added pressure would mean they come loose?

Thanks,
Ian
