Front Fog Lights

Hi All,

Quick question. My Z4 (06 plate facelift, 2.5si) is suffering with the common fogged up front fog lights problem. The car was at my local BMW dealer last Friday for them to look at it. On collection they confirmed that the lights were fogged up with condensation, that they have dried them out and lubricated the seals in an attempt to solve the issue. However, they can't replace under the AUC warranty as these are considered trim and therefore not covered. I'm not going to mention the dealer because they do have a very good reputation and I have always been happy with the service they have given over ownership of 3 BMW's. Also, they weren't the supplying dealer of the Z4. I didn't get charged for the work carried out either.

I said that I was very surprised that lights are considered as trim, as they are lights and therefore a requirement for safe driving. I also pointed out that I had some interior trim replaced on my X3, by themselves, and without question. The difference being that the X3 was under the original 3 year new car warranty at the time. I guess the terms of the AUC warranty are different, I will check this. I will also raise it with the supplying dealer for their opinion.

So, the question is, has anyone on here had their front fogs replaced under AUC warranty?

Thanks.

Jon

hi jon
i can confirm that my local dealer replaced both my front fog lights however i pointed out before i bought the z4 that the front fogs were misted-up and waited to see if that it was just a case of it being sat around over winter with two foot of snow infront of it when i told them that they had not dried out the salesman told me it was a know fault and there are a few comments on here about it hope this helps

Hi Scotty,

Thanks for the info. I've only had the car since last November, but didn't notice any condensation until a month or so ago.

Think I will have to double check the terms of the AUC warranty and approach the supplying dealer. My local dealer quoted £265 to supply and fit two new lights. If they aren't covered by the warranty I will wait for them to pack up before spending the cash. At the moment they appear to work fine.

Your only chance would be goodwill gesture, I had mine replaced just within the 3 years. But I have had a set of 108's under goodwill (2nd set) at 3 1/2 years, so anything is possible.

It is a common issue so I would point this out and keep it friendly and appeal to their better nature (if they have one)
