Front Fog Lights flooded

Just replaced the front fog lights with OEM Magneti Morelli s made in Mexico

The Old ones were completely flooded - half full of water.

On looking for the source of leakage I came across the Vent on the top outboard side of each light.

Prising off the cap there is a filter and Plug :

Removing these leaves a direct entry for water into the light through the square aperture inside :

I Put silicon sealant over the vent plug filter and replaced the caps.
My lights are no longer Vented.

Submerging the old lights in water this was the only visible entry point for water ingress.

I understand why you would vent a light but its a pi55 p00r design. Keeps the factory in business but very poor design and ( I hesitate to use the term) "quality" .

None the less still in productioin and still probably going to leak - eventually.

I guess its also all to do with heating up and then sucking in moist air which condenses once inside.

At the first sign of condensation I may revert to fitting a drain plug in the underside - I have some new rubber caps for the Caliper bolts left over

Anyone want to buy a pair of used lights going cheap?

I also resprayed the lower front bumper due to chips and gouges. Serviced the Headlight Washer jets too getting rid of all the crud and lubricating with Silicone spray.

Lockdown, never been so busy!

Hopefully if it cant get in then it wont have to drain out but will have to wait and see!

The leakes generally come from the join between the chrome and the clear plastic, the chrome layer peals off and water gets in.

it is a s**t design, I 3D printed some parts for the top but its definetly the chrome that needs redoing
