Front flexi pipes replacement

Hi all

Anyone got guidance on how best to do this: replaced flexi tubes on E30's before.

MOT advisory said they are in a bad way and they are! As the rest of the brakes are getting sorted I will do this at the same time.

The metal to rubber join is very corroded- so what's the plan here? I don't want the metal brake pipe to fail;

Assume once thats loose, you can loosen from the calliper and swap out?

Cheers

Stuart

If you've done it before, it's the same.

A flare nut spanner and some penetrating oil will come in handy.

I'd go for some braided hoses with swivel fittings as they are much easier to fit.

I recently swapped to a Wezmoto braided stainless kit that replaces the solid section on the rear. The fronts are done in minutes, the rears a little longer but is easy once you remove the bracket complete with the old solid hose as it will be corroded, it's easier to part once the hose is off the car. Stick some poly bag under the fluid cap to prevent fluid loss (I had virtually none so makes bleeding a breeze with no need for ABS triggering as no air got in) and snipping the hoses before removal also makes life easy.
Good info here about the rears in particular

That’s great guidance- especially on the rears

Haven’t had a good look at them yet and not on mot list but now I know you can swap out for one I think that’s prudent

Thank you!

I think I'd be tempted to spin the calliper off the other end of the flexi first. Gives you more room and more opportunity to fiddle with the flexi/solid join.

calipers coming off regardless as need to fit new discs!

the MOT advisory said corroded

More like turned to dust

This new MOT it had? Was it on a fag packet by any chance?

Please could someone tell me which size of brake flare spanner is required ? I've seen 10x12mm and 13x14mm spanners for sale.

It'll either be 10 or 11mm as I think thats the only size flare spanner I have - I think it's 11mm.

EDIT - Google says 11mm.

Thanks Stuart. I'm not doing the job just yet. I'm collecting tools ready for next year!
