Front Disc Replacement

Hi folks,

Looking for advice on the front disc's on our 06 3.0 si msport - just noticed a bit of a brake judder/wobble as in either a sticking caliper or slightly warped disc. I think its more likely to be a sticking caliper tbh but got 2 questions;

1) Anyone else had sticking calipers? (40,000miles btw), not due a service for 15k

2) The discs are slightly worn but if i had to replace a warped one would the M discs fit (drilled) or would anyone recommend an aftermarket disc ? brembo / ap ? etc

thanks

corrie phil :rofl: (refers to earlier post sorry)

At 40k its possible they are the original discs,if so very likely to be knackered. I changed mine at 43k as they were grumbling on every hard use of the brakes and felt poor in general. OE are good brakes, so go with them and not too dear either. I went for EBC Turbo grove discs all round, and yellow stuff pads. I like the discs, but not the pads. I'll be swapping over to some pagid ones as soon as I can be arsed to do it. I do like the lack of brake dust with the EBC ones though.

Might sound a daft question, but do the aftermarket pads come with the wear sensors ?

The wear sensors aren't part of the pad so it doesn't matter what pad type they're used with.

Wear sensors are electrical and plug into a cutout on the edge of the pad. One front and one rear.

Do some braking and see if one claiper is getting hot. That would be most likley on a sticking caliper.
If the discs are worn and grooved just change them out rather than hunting down caliper problems.

OEM, aftermarket like EBC is all about what you want to achieve price, use of car. If you're just replacign just stick OEM and standard pads. Anything like grooved or different performance pads and you really need to do all 4 in one go

Thanks for the advice :thumbsup:, will sort the "sticky" caliper business out first, hopefully without having to replace the discs, give me a bit more time to look at which type of discs to go for, if i'm totally honest i would look at aftermarket stuff (as long as its equal to or better) from a looks point of view (like to see drilled/machined discs) rather than an improvement on oe performance, :D
