Front Caliper dust boot replacement question.

I've been painting up my calipers one at a time as time permits, anyway the last one I did (NSF) I stupidly somehow managed to catch the dust boot with the wire brush & tear a hole in it :headbang: , I've ordered up a new dust boot from BMW which will be in tomorrow, has anyone managed to replace one of these & how much of a faff is it?

I'm imagining that I would:-

1, remove the caliper main body as if changing the pads
2, gently pump the brake pedal until the piston has moved out a bit.
3, remove the old dust boot
4, refit the new boot, push back the piston with a clamp
5, reassemble pads & caliper.

Does that sound about right?, someone please tell me that the whole caliper doesn't need to be taken to bits to change just the dust boot :o

(PS, I'm not using the car until I've got a new boot sorted).

Not done this on the Z4 but normally you can change the dust boot quite easily. You'd be best to remove the caliper from the car first, then do it on the bench. Although you may be able to do it in-situ. Not too difficult a job. :D

Thanks DR-Z, fills me with a little confidence now, will post back & let you know how I get on.

Here's hoping I don't push a hole through the new one, £22 from BMW :o , could have got a whole caliper refurb kit from eBay for not a lot more but wanted to be sure it was a proper fit hence going OEM.

Dust boot fitted, was an absolute bitch to fit & DR-Z was right - it would have been much easier to fit this working on bench, however, it was done whilst still attached to the brake hose (I didn't fancy bleeding the brakes).

A couple of weeks ago I kept back a couple of wooden lolly sticks for the dash centre vent removal, however I used these to push the lip of the new boot back into place.

Replacing the dust boot is not something I intend to do again in a hurry

Haha good work Tony! Hope all is well with it now!
