Front bumper spray - colour difference

I have a nasty scratch on my front bumper and the lower lip is also in a bad way.

I also have a spare bumper in good condition, currently painted dark blue so need it spraying to match my sterling grey car.

If I just get the spare one sprayed grey using the correct paint code, will it be really obviously newly sprayed without blending into the wings and bonnet?

Be good to hear from anyone who has done similar.
 
Just had mine sprayed front and rear. They have made a decent job of he colour matching. My Zed has spent the vast majority of its life sat in a garrage, not sure how that affects the paint tone over the years.
 
There are three variants of Sterling Grey so it's definitely worth the bodyshop taking the time to get the right shade in. My car isn't as tidy as yours, but I was happy to take the risk of a small colour mismatch in order to have a cosmetically-perfect bumper. I do have a BIT of a mismatch going on now, but it looks so much better for being free of stone chips and scuffs that I'm happy. It might've been a different story had it been one of my tidier and more original cars!
 
Hmmm, thanks chaps - so it may be better (and more expensive) to give them the car and let them do it properly. I was also going to fit my new lights and undertray while the bumper was off, but I'm sure they'd be happy to add that on.

I'll have a think.
 
I’d agree with taking the car in too if possible. I had my front bumper resprayed a while ago, they didn’t blend the wings or bonnet but it’s a perfect match. Being Titan silver I was sure there would be a difference as apparently silver is a pain to match.

The paint code will obviously be a good start but if the cars been in the sun / weather over the years then they’ll be able to adjust to suit with the car in front of them.
 
My Z4 is Sterling Grey and I had the front bumper resprayed last July following a minor car park bump (not my fault :D ) courtesy of the other partys Allianz insurance. The repair was done by Claridges of Southport and was an absolutely perfect match with the original wings and bonnet both in terms of shade of colour and size of metallic flake. At a cost of £1,380.00 :o I suppose it should have been perfect too ! Glad I didn't have to foot the bill :D I have a compressor and spray gun in my garage but there is absolutely no way I could have achieved such a perfect match and finish myself :thumbsup: 20190512_155600.jpg
 
Paint shops take a small painted item from the car, usually the fuel flap and get a colour match from that.

If you get paint without matching you will probably get a mismatch (worse looking than paintchips IMO).

My point is, you can have your spare bumper painted while you do other things to the car if you give the fuel flap to the paint shop for a few days.
 
Yea bumpers you can usually get away with without blending but you will need to match the paint using fuel flap or door handle. Its amazing of what 14 years plus in the sun does to paint
 
These days bumpers are painted separately to the car from factory anyway :thumbsup: I remember owning an orange focus st and the colour match between bumper and wing was very noticeable.

As said, if you're worried just give them the fuel flap cover or towing eye cover, if you don't want to leave the entire car with them.
 
I'd add the caveat that you make sure you offer the filler cap up to your bumper before you hand it over as a colour sample - just to make sure it does actually match the bumper!
 
I would take the z to the spray shop and let them match the colour to the paint chips they have.If they are not happy with the match they will probably say leave the car with us and we will blend the colour in.

I've had a change of mind actually :D

I was planning on getting the spare bumper sprayed (this is your old bumper Alan!!) then sticking it on the car along with my facelift headlights and replacement undertray (also Alan's :lol:) - but the sun was shining this morning and I've been itching to get these lights on, so sorted all that out today.

The bumper isn't actually too bad - I did a Facebook post earlier to a local group asking for some body shop recommendations and one of them has quoted £90 plus VAT to sort the scratch out and blend in the repair, so I'm going to go down that route for now. Another chap quoted £200 for the full bumper just using the factory paint code, no blending etc.

Is that the Wales trip? I pondered it but don't think I have a passenger lined up. Are you going?
 
Crocs are my guilty pleasure actually - my wife cringes in embarrassment when I wear them outside the house too. Such fun :P

Yup the English-Welsh run - I haven't got a passenger yet either, should be good fun though if the weather behaves.
