Front Bumper Skid plates?

QUESTION :
just getting my (E85) //M front bumper resprayed, and notice that along the base there are holes for what looks like some trim or skid plate thing to go.
looking at REAL OEM, can't find the part.

Can anyone tell me if there should be a plastic trim under there? screw holes run all along from the 'fangs' under the center section etc.

 :o

hmmm... really.. are the holes just for the arch cover and the plastic floor plate thing to affix to then?

yeah had seen the RPI ones, although they don't reply to emails so can't be bothered to buy from them.

I spoke to couple of forum members when I was thinking of changing over to an M bumper myself. As far as I know, those holes are to attach the undertray. If you're using an M bumper on a non-M zed, the original undertray doesn't quite reach, so the holes are visible....

I'm no expert on this, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

There should only be one hole each side on the outside on each fang towards the wheels.

The m undertray attaches to the center not the fangs... If that makes sense!

thanks mate. yep, all understood. on the underside of the fangs there are 3 or 4 holes suggesting that they had some sort of cover, ive noticed the hole which attaches to the arch cover, just wondered what went there... or maybe my bloke had some aftermarket skid plates?

oooohhh i love a friday when you worry about the car rather than work.... :P

But i'd certainly be interested in some skid plates if you find some

The M front does sit noticably lower then my stock bumper.

Yep it is lower... great!

was discussing this issue last night with my mate - he reckons that if you wrap the bottom of the fang along the crease line, maybe with a CF wrap, then if you scrape you can always re-wrap etc. cost 25quid or so (or do yourself). as opposed to scraping up the aluminium skid plate and it looking all nasty.

not sure.

and then theres the CF hockey stick splitter things to go on the bottom of the fangs... this is just never ending!

Mine are RPI! Stopped me scraping the bottom many times. When they get tatty I just re-spray them black.. £5? lol

I have the RPI skid plates fitted under my front bumper...

Where is the best plate to get some of these rpi skid plates?

I have already clipped my drivers side fang

Surely any contact will damage the bolts and the fittings within the actual bumper, meaning once its damage it will be hard to fix?

They must be different from the various 8mm bolts on the undercarriage, as i have caught them and they have damaged the fitting

I thought the same thing, before installing. They work perfectly and protection is up one level...
