Front bumper shims.

Sad, but if you Google 'bumper spacer shims' you end up back at this post, so obviously not a common item

My guess is they are just something someone found to make a bit of adjustment. Can't see why theyu would as you can move the bumper cover in and out on slots and raise/lower the bonnet closed position.

I did not know this... That would be what the screws in the bonnet release springs are for then ?

That would explain it... some bodyshop or other has fitted these when installing the new bumper to ensure perfect fit, I guess.... doesn't mean anything sinister has happened. Mrs L scraped our garden wall in her last car and the bumper was mis-shapen, so we swapped it over. No structural damage whatsoever.... I take it that you didn't see any signs of damage to the crash structures when you had the bumper off?

No structural damage but unfortunately 2 of the clip holders along the bottom edge were broken off, i think they are part of the engine under tray, have had to fabricate 2 new clip holders out of stainless and rivet them in but no other damage, its made a good repair but ultimately i could do with dropping on a good s/h under tray.
Did you fit new plastic clips where the bumper joins the wing ? if you did is it possible to do with the bumper in situe. Cheers

Thats been my conclusion cj and have been able to align everything spot on, no point in the shims at all, now in the odds and sods draw. Cheers.

I will let you know the answer to this on Wednesday evening, fitting a new one to mine as someone has been a little heavy-handed with the old one!

The old ones (in my experience) are a complete PITA to get out, so I ended up completely breaking my old ones out bit by bit - they were broken anyway. I didn't takes the wheels and splash guards off though, so I had very little space to get round the back to try and compress the clips holding them in place. I used small snips and a narrow screw driver to lever the bits out, being very careful not to bend the edges of the metal mounting holes. I guess you could change them with the bumper in-situ, but you would have to bend the edges of it quite a lot and that would make me nervous. Best to just whip it all off I reckon.

Can you leave the headlight washers still on the bumper when you lower the bumper? Been i while since i removed mine and i have forgotten :roll:

I need to replace my bumper wing clips too... scraped my bumper on my parents drive.. luckily my metal fang gards protected the bumper, but sadly has damaged those clips

Aquazi, sorry not had time to read your PM. Yes you can, just pull the rubber hose along the bottom of the bumper for the passenger washer out of the slots it sits in. Gave me plenty room to sit the bumper away from the car and work on the sides

Thanks, that sounds a bit of a job with everything on , for how easy it is i will go with removing bumper first. Thanks for the advice.

Did this last night, it took around 30 mins to complete. Like bing I carefully broke up the old one on the car rather than levering it out. New one just clips straight in and you are done! You need to take the bumper off of the car though, not too difficult.

Too me a bit longer as I spent ages pushing, pulling, fiddling and swearing a lot before I gave in to the low tech approach

I have never taken such a large part off a car and refitted it before. I was absurdly proud of myself afterwards
