Front Bumper Badge Query

I've read many threads here & am so confused, so I'll ask my question & hope I don't get shouted at for asking it! :evil:

My front bumper badge on my late 2009 3.0i sdrive needs replacing as it looks very scuffed.

It measures exactly 66mm, but every genuine, official BMW badge for my bumper measures at 70mm. :headbang:

Also, would I be correct in saying that to remove the existing badge is simply a case of carefully lifting it with a flathead screwdriver as it's held in by 2 or 3 prongs into rubber gromit type things? :?

Well the OE part number is 51147044207, and it's classed as a 70mm, that's the outer edges of the chrome ring not just the logo.

Here's one available on eBay, yeah they aren't cheap, but as you'll see it's the fixing spring clips that are the issue, getting them off and new ones applied can be very tricky if you don't have good access... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202562196672

The badge is fitted by self tapping nuts, not spring clips.
You can get to them by removing one of the grils.

I was more inferring that it's not rubber bungs

I changed mine last year and found a genuine badge from BMW to be cheaper than elsewhere at the time. Also the new badge didn’t sit neatly (as if the rear profile wasn’t the same) so had to carefully scrape paint away for the best fit.

I had no idea about the nuts when I took mine off and it ended in disaster.

I did re-fit the self tapping nuts tho on my new £40 badge, as there is nothing else to keep it attached.

Best method here is to remove the grill, but removing a grill is a horrible job which can also go wrong.

An easier solution is to remove the piece of plastic ducting feeding the air box.

You will need some sockets and a ratchet but you will then be able to reach under the badge, feel for the nuts and take them off.

One of those magnetic pickup tools is useful too.

Take the opportunity to clean out the air duct, as it’s literally full of moths. You can also pick the bigger ones out of the radiator.

That's the same Part Number as for E85/86s. Just make sure you keep those self-tapping nuts because the new badge doesn't come with new nuts.

So, an update.

I've just bought a cheap, copy, 74mm boot badge, and it's a perfect fit for the bonnet (bumper actually) badge on the E89.
I went very cheap simply because I wanted to test if it would be correct first before shelling any decent money on it. It didn't come assembled, so I may be able to get my original emblem off from the actual backplate and stick the new logo badge onto it, which would be much better :driving:
