front black grills

I did on my E86 but stone chips appeared very rapidly. Apparently Plastidip is more durable but it wasn’t readily available when I did mine. I bought replacement black grills from eBay for £20.

Do they do Plastidip in Gloss Black or is just the matt/satin finish. Bearing in mind the cost of the Oem parts and the fact that even on the proper BMW ones the centre slats remain satin/matt like the standard grills. I'm sorely tempted to try painting the outer pieces

You can buy an additional Plastidip gloss product which is sprayed on after the original layer of matte - never used it myself but people seem to like it (used often on alloys).

My pic above is 'full dip', an alternative to plastidip, slightly cheaper.

has anyone ordered some aftermarket ones with a quality fitment - I did a jump for these (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32830578689.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.3b116f42sF19H2) note they do not fit even with a sugar load of modification. The clips are too long, and its not wide enough it was horrible. So complained lets see what happens, in the meanwhile anyone got some alternatives or do I have to give up and give BMW a call for the black ones.


So I unclipped it in order to see why for the past 30 mins it just wasn't slotting in. The top slides in perfectly the bottom clips are just way to long to even slot in. So okay to the shop to do some semi mods -_- still doesn't fit. After a few modifications, slotted in the top clips and one on the bottom but then realised that if the right side fitted the left side clip wouldnt go anywhre near the pointt as the grill itself width wise was a tab bit too short and just won't clip in.

Gave up after around two hours, quality of the grilles was spot on though - mold was shizzle.


Anyways anyone have a link for the black grills for sale would be amazing!
