Front arch liner fittings

How on earth do you get the plastic rivets out that hold the inner arch liner to the lower front of the bumper? There's 4 each side, and on mine they look like they are the sort that have a pin pushed in so that they expand when in place.
Is the only way to cut the heads off and replace with new? In which case, does anyone know the size to order, as I'm sure they are a generic fitting with no need to pay BMW prices? 6mm?
Tried gently to push the pins further in, but they didn't budge and I'm not sure if the fittings have a closed end on them anyway, so won't push out?

I use needle-nose pliers and pull the centre pin out.

There isn't anything in the centre to grip - just a small hole. According to RealOEM, from 03/2007 they moved to part no 07147172274, which is a kind of plastic pop rivet, so I'm guessing one time use only.

Hit the centre pin all the way through, use a punch and hammer

Seems to be the answer to getting them out - thanks.

Any idea whether I can retrofit another clip that will be removable in future? Other folk seem to whip their bumpers off at the drop of a hat - surely they don't replace the original one-time rivets each time?
