Front and rear discs

Hi all

My Z4M Roadster has pitted discs front and rear as it has been standing many months unused. (admittedly in a conditioned garage covered up)

I believe I'm correct that the replacement discs are the same as those for the stock M3 of the era. Must I go OEM or do others have reputable suppliers they use?

Whilst I'm at it, are discs something that can be reconditioned by a brake specialist? What would you recommend?

Next challenge is figuring out what postage will be to South Africa!
 
If they're not too bad, and are not particularly worn, then a hour or two of hard driving/braking may make all the difference.
 
Thanks for the steer. I'm pretty confident they are worn as they are the originals.

Can any of you help an ignoramus? I went onto the Autodoc website mentioned on the parallel thread. I see discs that say they are compatible for my E85 Z4M ranging from £26 per single disc up to £280. What is the difference, and how material/safe are the better value ones?

Change them, you won't regret it. I replaced mine with OEM [ 2006 Z4MR ] this time last year. The drive back home, around 100 miles, was fantastic. The car was so smooth. I've owned from new & you don't notice the change happening as it's over a long period. I still grin now, 12 months on, when giving it a bit of welly.
 
The fronts I would go for the top quality ones and mid price/quality on the rear

If the fronts are out of true a tiny bit you will feel it under braking the rears a lot less so. The brake split is probably 65/35%

I replaced my rears from Harry Fairbairn, £190 pair Inc delivery

Pads I bought from Ebay, Bosch @ £32 using OEM Part number search, used on lots of BMW rears.
 
I’m going to change all four corners this spring. I want to stick with OEM, so today I popped in to my local BMW dealer to get a quote for disks and pads.

Front disk = £178.51 each
Rear disk = £114.74 each
Front pads = £87.76
Rear pads = £59.82
Total = £880.90

I tried to fish for a discount, the parts guy said you get 10% off if you’re a BMW car club member. However it’s £45 to join so that’ll reduce the discount some what.

Can anyone offer an opinion of is this a reasonable price? Obviously buying local saves any delivery cost/hassle.
 
Post up on M3 Cutters forum, Cotswold and Rybrook will both give you a quote on there plus discount and free delivery, both are good but vary on price on different parts. Got loads of stuff recently from Rybrook on Cutters, can't fault the service.

Also worth a check on leebmann24, German site but use Google translate or similar and sign up for an account and email then saying your part of a car club for extra discount when you check out. Sounds like hassle but it doesn't take a minute. Can be a lot cheaper for certain parts but factor in delivery. Had a new water pump from them recently, cheaper than UK prices with delivery and obviously all Genuine BMW parts.

As for discs, go OEM (ATE) on the standard set up or don't bother at all IMO. Brakes aren't an area you want to cheap out on, also consider what a potential buyer might think if you sell.....
 
Thank your lucky stars you don't have a 335 with Msport brakes - Dealer price for front discs and pads £825 :thumbsdown:
 
To update this:
As recommended I posted on the M3 cutters forum, Cotswold BMW was the cheapest at £729. This is a saving of about £150 over my local BMW dealer. Just have to wait for them to be delivered and the weather to improve a little.
