From Z4 to a E46 M3

Much as I enjoy my Z4M the E46 M3 is a better drive IMO, partly because (IMO) the driving position is better and partly because its suspension is better sorted out of the box.

However E46s suffer heavily from rot whereas the Z4s don't seem to.

Having driven both Z4M and E46 M3, the E46 is definitely a better daily driver. It doesn't tramline as much as the Z, is easier to drive fast, and is generally more comfortable, practical etc.

However... going straight from the M Coupe I found the E46's steering rack really slow in comparison. The gear shift throw feels overly long, and there also isn't as much audible intake/exhaust noise from inside the cabin. To me the Z feels more raw, and while technically it's probably an inferior car, I'd take one over the M3 every time. Both great though.

Personal opinion of course

Did I mention I don't like Minis?
I think I noticed that Andrew.

Mrs Tidy (who now lives elsewhere) ordered a new R56 Cooper at the launch event in 2006 and picked it up just in time for Christmas. 65K miles later she still has it and it has had very few issues, but then she knows its history!
That’s impressive. Long may it stay that way

No worries. After 12 years apart we get on better now, but only in small doses so there's not likely to be a reconciliation!
