From the wife for Christmas ...

Missed this, thanks - interesting summary about Michelin being the most comfortable, as certainly agree my MP4S’ on 19” are more compliant than the 18” Goodyear’s on 224’s they replaced

It’s worth pointing out that the “non-S” PS4 would also be an excellent choice if you could reliably pick it up for less than the 4S (which does not seem to be the case, thanks to our free market economy!). Slightly less aggressive and perhaps the better tyre for cruising/GT use.

This is not a :poke: , but a genuine comment: I'm surprised Vreds didn't come out better.

I thought the opposite until the braking results - amazed that they did so well for such an old design that you can often pick up for under £100/corner. They always do well in subjective tests (especially in the dry) so I suspect a lot of their performance comes from driver confidence.

Also interesting to compare this test with the ones he’s done using a Fiesta ST. Front wheel drive brings out a whole different set of characteristics.

I'm sure you're right. I said it only in the context of mr wilks's choice of tyres before his defection to Porsche & Michelin.

In my stocking this morning, among books, marrons glacés and Turkish delight, was a note from the wife: 'And a set of new tyres for the 35iS'.

She's a generous woman, which means I can have any I want. So, the question is, what's the best?

I can't comment on which tyres (although I got Goodyear Eagle F1's).

However, your post made me chuckle.....I was thinking of getting Deb a new Dyson for Christmas, but after remembering the response I got 20 years ago when I got her a tumble drier for Christmas (I was young and naive) I thought I better check the general consensus first.

Most posts I found online said it was a definite no-no and some compared it to buying a man a tool kit for Christmas. Some comments then said a guy would be happy with such a gift.

Then your post confirms it!!!!

(I got her the Dyson on Boxing day, so my bollox are still intact).

I haven't defected to Michelin. :? In fact the exact opposite.
The 997 came with virtually new PS4S fitted & as I found on a previous 35is they were just too noisy for me to live with.
They were off, sold for £450 & I used the cash to fund a brand new set of Vortis which I've covered 1500 miles on & couldn't be happier.
The PS4S are compliant and offer high levels of grip from the off but there is a offset to that.
Look forward to your comparisons once switched from Pzero

Is it possible that the Michelins made the already 'feel every pebble' suspension of the 997 just too hard? The OE is the 'soft' P Zero Rosso, isn't it?

Maybe you should test the generosity of your wife for a different set of alloys (from Mr Wilks) fitted with a different brand of tyre for each day of the week

No PASM or Sport spec on my 997 , its is on the peasant spec springs equivalent to Bmw Se so rides over those pebbles like a 7 series :P
I'm currently looking to rubber up a freshly refiurbed set of 224s for the ZMR , seriously considering the Dunlop SportMaxx RT with mfs ( Dunlops extra rim protection)

Just bought a set of Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3's - reviewed well and seem to come out close to the top of the mid range tyres and well ahead of the vreds I currently have. Not got them on yet so will be interesting to see how they compare.

These seem like really good value.

Well I had to chuckle, I’ve got the SportMaxx RT on my summer wheels (18”) on my Volvo XC70!

Seemed a strange conjunction 911 and XC70.. :driving:

Having said that, great ride and sticks well when I cock it up in a dark corner in the Scottish Borders..
