Hello...........thinking of changing my 911 for a z4.......... has anyone on the forum made the switch?
The 911 has been an excellent car and with the sports exhaust sounds stunning but fancy a change and something a bit newer.......i have my eye on 3 cars at the moment

2003 (53) z4 3.0 39,000 miles, silver,red leather price 14,975 from local car dealer

or

2004 z4 2.2 15,000 miles, black, black leather price 15,995 BMW main dealer

or

2005 z4 3.0 23,000 miles, Titanium Silver, black leather msports seats price 17,995 BMW main dealer

any opinions greatly received ie price etc

Steve,

An interesting switch and not we see much

Personally I'd forget the 2.2 you will hours after you collect it.

The 3.0i you refer to looks good and although I drive an '03 with red interior and ///M seats, trying not to be biased I'd be tempted by the '05 with ///M seats.
Prices seem a tad high but that's dealer for you.

Check what else you're getting in the spec. Sat Nav, manual or auto, etc.

This one sounds best, what's the full spec of it. Price is not bad, probably got a bit of movement in it at that.

3.0 should have the same performance as your 964 more or less? My mate had one, don't think it was a 964, it was an E reg, just before 964 is that right?

Thanks for the swift response lads........yes the 964 is a 1991 model......as i said cant knock the car at all but have always fancied a roadster.....looked at the boxster but the legroom was to crampt with no adjustment in the steering.........hoping the z4 has a bit more legroom and i am right in thinking the steering is adjustable?

all the cars are auto's...the spec on the 05 car is

2 Doors, Automatic, Sports, Petrol, 23,225 miles, Titanium Silver, Black Oregon Leather, Automatic Gearbox, Ellipsoid Spoke 107 8/8/1/2 x 18, Hi-Fi loudspeaker system, M Sport Seats, Metallic paint, Multi-function Steering Wheel, Seat Heating, Storage Compartment Pack, Remote Control Alarm, Fully Automatic Hood, Auto-Dim Interior Mirror, Sport Steering Whl, Automatic Air Conditioning, On-Board Computer, Front Foglamps, Elec Fr Seats + Driver Memory, Headlamp Washer System, Rain Sensor, M-Sports Suspension, Twin Exhaust Pipes, Flat Tyre Indicator + Run Flat Tyres

the 03 car

2 Doors, Automatic, Roadster, Petrol, 39,000 miles, Silver Metallic Red Leather. ABS, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels, Central locking, Computer, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Front armrest, Electrically adjustable seats, Headlight washers, Immobiliser, Passenger airbag, Power assisted steering, Side airbags, Radio/CD, Traction control. Service History

the 03 car would give me more money to spend on mod's but of course the 05 car would come with a years warranty that could be extended is the right?

if i could get the 05 for........ being cheeky here  16750-17000 i think i may go for it.....

decisions,decisions

wow, that's a change..porsche to bmw.. :scratchhead: . Both outstanding cars. Please let us know what you decide to go with and don't forget an intro with pics and specs  . Oh and, I love your screename

Mmmm the 05 is the best bet with the HiFi and M Sport seats and definitely worth a couple of grand more. The warranty is extendable and TBH I wouldn't be without it.

I know this is a z4 forum but i get the feeling that some are suprised that i want to change the 911?
do you think i'm mad?

dont know if the dealer will drop the price of the 05 but am very tempted

not sure how to upload photo's but here are the cars in question

Don't forget that the 05 has the sport button. You might want to read some of the active threads on that. I love that mode on my manual and most say that it's even a bigger improvement on an automatic.

Not me - I went from a 1983 911SC targa to a 2003 Z4 2.5i. The change was like stepping out of a time machine.

cockyapple, welcome to the forum...
Porsche 911's are great cars and in years past I have had two of them. However, my real love is roadsters and always has been and for me and what I like in a roadster the Zed 4 is the best out there today in a modern roadster.

I am ex 964 myself then BoxS before the Z4MR

The Z4s are great cars, very very nice to drive, IMO it has to be at least a 3.0 you go for if you still want to enjoy the power, you wont get the 964 sports sound though, even the M is quiet, also the Z4 wont mist up when it rains and the cabin wont smell of oil, also you cant look for the spoiler in the rear view mirror as per the 964 :)

I'm not surprised that you want to change. I would rather have my Zed over a 17-year old 911 any day.

Go for the 2005! I'm so glad that I did. The 2005 doesn't have the facelift (which I don't care that much for anyways) but does have benefits over the 2003/04:
1) No orange part on the bottom of the headlights (completely clear on 2005)
2) Clear side lights (orange on 2003/04)
3) White inner circle lights on rear brake lights (orange on 2003/04)
4) Top goes down with key (not available 2003)
5) Multi-function steering wheel (not available on 2003 and some 2004)
6) Bluetooth capability

Benefits over 2006+ models (IMHO):
1) Can purchase chrome exhaust tips for $55 which looks much nicer than the plasticky-looking exhaust tips on the facelift model.
2) Tire pressure monitors built into ABS system so you don't have to have TPS on all your tires (expensive!).

Well, I think you will love the Z4, besides, as I say, a coupe or hard top is night and day compared to a convertible, and I love the feeling behind the Z4 with the long hood, you can feel the power even without moving, love it, put the top down on a sunny day and you won't be waiting to have sex at night, well............you know what I mean....anyway go for it and get the convertible for sure, great great great.
