From E46 M3 to Z4?

i have been lookin at 2 cars locally

2005 Z4 2.5i automatic
and
2007 Z4 3.0si automatic with shift paddles (or knobs)

is the 2.5i slow?

what abt the difference between the 3.0si and 3.0?

how do i know if im actually gettin the si version? is it year specific?
sorry for the noob questions

Why are you looking to change?

The 2.5 will be an absolute world away from your M3.

si is from 2006 onwards.

im looking for a change in cars because the M3 is getting a bit boring. i need soemthing with better styling.

looking at Z4 or the new SLK

A Z4M roadster is barely any more expensive than a decent M3. The coupes cost slightly more.

You'll regret dropping down to a 3 litre.

hows the gas mileage for the Z4 3.0si like?

im gettin around 9.5 L/100km on highway driving at around 80mph
and 18 L/100km commuting in town with lots of stop and go traffic...

Use the search button and use google. Everything you've asked so far is very common knowledge.

I had an E46 M3 convertible and I went in and traded it on my new 2009 Z4 35i , love the new one. 7 spd DCT. It's a dream to drive, goes like a bat out of hell and looks so much better than an e46. Most of the people on this forum drive the older Z 4's :P :P so you have to take the comments with a grain of salt, IMO get a new one, you won't regret it.

What is the price difference betweee 2007 3.0si auto and 2009 sDrive35i with DCT? In UK, the difference is at least £15k (E85 for £20k vs E89 from £35k).

z4m is too expensive....
I'm sure sDrive35i DCT will be much more expensive than Z4M.

Couldn't tell you the difference, I never looked at Z4's after my Z3 3.0i, went straight to the M3 and then back to the new E89 with the new looks, You're probably close at 15k sterling.

Yes I recommend buying a new one... then you can sell it to me for half the price in 3 years time  :P

I can't imagine coming from an M3 that you would be happy with anything other than a Z4M or the new Z4 35i... :driving:

I usually keep my cars for 7 years, the M3 was an experiment at 2 years, I will be looking for a Z MCoupe in the next year or two but I will be keeping the E89 for a long long time. You have to amortize these things over that length to rationalize the price so Adam, if you're still waiting in 2017 I'll sell it to you, maybe.

WLH - right on the money. The 35i is close to the E46 M3 in hp/weight ratio, it surprised the heck out of me when I drove one the first time and stomped on the gas. The ZM coupe would be a little quicker, and harder to find...

Z4M. I had an E46 M3 SMG previously; I would say the 3.0 doesn't feel quick enough after an M3.

However you say you are interested in 'better styling' - if that's all, get a 3.0 - no point spending more on the M

I swapped an 06 plate M3 Convertible for my Z4MC, did'nt want to but I had no choice as it was either the Z4MC or nothing (Its a long story). Dont get me wrong the difference between the two cars is huge but both have their advantages in very different ways. The M3 was very much, more practicle and I do miss the open top and I thought it sounded much nicer with the raspy sound it produced. Plus its handling was more subtle and compliant. The main thing I love about the Z4MC compared to the M3 is the fact that it is soooooo different, quirky, looks better and is more fun. Its not the most practicle car in the world and if you ever bought one thinking that it was.... more fool you! I've never looked back and regretted what I did and dont believe I ever will.

Do you really think the M3 exhaust sounds better than the Z4M? For me the Z4M sounds infinitely superior to the M3 in that department. The weight you lost by ditching the Wendyhouse makes up for the practicality aspect, as you've found out.
