From bumper deliberations (aero/standard)..

My sterling grey roadster has the optional aero front bumper. I bought it like that, although it is not factory fitted. As it happens I also have the original standard front stashed in the garage too.

I am due to have the bumper (aero) resprayed on Tuesday due to a few stone chips, a couple if kerb scrapes on the underside and a bit if previous repair filler shrinkage.

Today I removed the aero and stripped it of all removable parts ready for the paint shop. The previous repair is a bit rough, but nothing that can’t be dealt with by the professionals.

Now to the deliberations. I have had reservations about the aero styling previously, hence me acquiring the standard bumper too. Now I have them both in front me and having loosely fitted the standard one, I am now wondering whether to get that one sprayed (it needs it) and sell on the aero as it is. This option should pay for the respray and leave me some change.

I reckon despite the repair work it would be better to sell now and let a new owner get it painted to their colour requirements and have the repair sorted at the same time.

Just interested in opinions. This is not a for sale ad for the aero, as I could easily go either way with this. I can imagine a severe case of sellers remorse if I sell the aero as these rarely come up for sale and do look so much more aggressive/purposeful at the front.

The aero for me. I have one as well as the original and I wouldn’t have the standard bumper back on my car.

I find it less clear cut. Sometimes I like it, sometimes not. I like that it is different to most other Zeds I see, but the standard is a cleaner, simpler look. The Z4M bumper works better for me. The more aggressive look, but a little less ‘Jimmy Hill’ than the aero.

Anyway, what do you think about the value of the the aero as it is, vs repaired and resprayed?

I bought my Aero bumper last year for £350. Needed a respray at £150 and some minor repair at the bottom.

They rarely come up for sale, and I think I got mine very cheap.

I personally never got the appeal of the aero front bumper; it just looks like an ugly aftermarket bumper you'd see in the early 2000s (think Fast & Furious).

Well it was the standard bumper which went for a respray in the end and that is the one which now adorns my car, looking resplendent it its sparkling fresh sterling grey finish.

As for the aero.... well I'm going to live with the standard bumper for a while before making a final decision, but I am currently thinking that I may sell it on.

I’d stick it in the shed. One day it’ll be worth as much as the side skirts... Might even take in enough to buy another Zed!

If I had the space stashing it away for a rainy day would be a good plan. However, I don’t have the luxury of spare storage space so having given it some thought I think it will need to find a new owner.

Advert coming soon, when I can determine how to price something when there no others for sale in this country for comparison.
