French registration!

 South of France.
In the last couple of years, since we've been living here, I've registered 5 cars ... there's a one off reg fee and no tax as in the UK, the tax being on the petrol which is cheaper than the UK anyway! A 2 year old 4.4 diesel Range Rover Vogue with Co2 figure of 253 = €2200. A 2 year old diesel Jaguar XF-S Sportbrake Co2 168 (?) = €2400, A 2 year old BMW Z4 with Co2 of 211 = €6800 (yes really!) ........ a Lotus Elise I kept for 6 months, didn't bother to reg and traded for the Z4 ... oh, and the wife's Citroen C1, new with Co2 figure less than my electric toothbrush, and about as much power = the euro equivalent of sixpence! Beats me! ... :x :? :| ... the moral of the story is, buy something sensible or go and live in the Bahamas (golf cart on the island we go to 8) )
 
I seem to recall reading somewhere that one of the Citroen models gets 60 mpg. Also sounds like Citroen is planning to return to the US market in the near future.
 
The C1, and many more of the Citroen range will do over 60mpg.

That Z4 rate seems difficult to justify. At least you are not in Athens!

Yes, we sent the demand back and queried it but it came back as correct ... we even had a phone call from the top- wallah at the registration place in Perpignan explaining, in English thankfully, that the rates changed for 2014 cars and later ... didn't quite make sense because the Jag was 2014, anyway we didn't argue in case he decided they hadn't charged enough! Thank goodness the payments are one off ... I might be keeping my cars longer than previously! ... :D .... I'd have thought that in Athens nobody pays any tax ... ever!

Yes I think you're right about the C1 mpg, not that we check it, it only really goes to the nearest big supermarket once a week, return trip of maybe 20 miles! I think, without looking it up, it's 1000 odd cc, 3 cylinder and automatic, which we both prefer. We must have had it for 18 months and I've maybe driven it 5/6 times. It's OK to drive once you wind it up a bit and is handy up some of the narrower mountain roads! ... does the job it was bought for and uses less pavement when you park it on them! On French plates you can drive like a half-wit! ... :D
 
Peugeot 106 diesel and dare say it's Saxo equivalent would do 69 mpg. So nothing has advanced much in 20 years.
And the 106 could be run on veg oil with care and could chuck it around roundabouts without too much effort and top 95mph.

Don't want the memsahib to see this ... she'll be trying vegetable oil in her petrol Citroen! ... :roll:
