Autoglass have got the free Bosch wiper blade offer going again when you have a repair done which is usually free on most fully comp policies :)
I used it on our Golf late last year & found them faultless & came to the house on a sunday morning to do it

Not sure "really tatty" qualifies as a genuine repair or replacement criteria
Claiming for the repair had no effect on my NCD but i would always check with insurer first ,
the principal on the repair is even with a excess the insurance company would have to fork out £200 minimum for a new screen so they would rather pay for a repair at £50 or so to prevent the chance of it cracking  makes sense to me :)

I've checked with my local insurer down here - the optional tyre puncture cover and the windscreen cover don't affect the claim record. It's better to check anyway.

use an independent windscreen replacement company, most deal with insurance and you get to help your local company..

or use them and get a free set of £10 wipers.. Autoglass charge insurance companys alot more than independent windscreen companys are allowed to... shocking monoply
