Fraudulant website tracing

A customer just called me to say that a website has been created, very similar to them, with mallicious intention.

I have done a whois on the website, but it only leads me to the registrant - i.e. yell in this case. How can I find out who really has registered it?

Does it not list their ISP - so you could contact them?

Sorry - by ISP I actually mean whoever is hosting the server!

It is showing YELL as the registrant as well as yell being the hosting when I trace the IP of the web site.

Don't know how you can get the true details as there are plenty of sites that hide behind 'anonymous' records.

Your first port of call would be to report it to the Registrar listed, and then escalate it to the domain manager (e.g. Nominet for .co.uk websites) - http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/security/scams/

In the meantime, report it to ActionFraud.

THanks for that, calling Yell now on behalf of the customer ...
