France RoadTrip '09

oh and yes, the French roads do put our roads to shame, none of this tram-lining nonsense. That said, they pay for it. We spent approx €250 in tolls over the two weeks.

As an aside, I like the average speed camera that does not do anything but display your number plate in large letters on the side of the road saying "LT11 1111 trop vite". You're famous for a few seconds.

Yes I was treated to that minute of fame myself, bit shocked at first!! have you got a tag? Used mine first time this trip....what a difference!!

Do you really know of Sarah Jane? She used to work for Bluehomes! The are a crowd aren't they.....the guy that owns it was previously banned from pig-breeding cos he dared to try crossing the famous Gascony Black with a pink piggie!! So he went into real estate...the only downside is they pushed local prices waaaay up and their selling tactics werent great - they tried to tell me that the house I was interested in that had two years worth of undergrowth surrounding it was suddenly under offer by two other interested parties - needless to say that story soon evaporated when i backed off....

Our place is in a village called Sere Rustaing, about 20 ks north of Lannemezan.......and 30ks -odd from the Pyrenees......

So did you just sell up altogether?

Long story short, my mother lived in London and moved to what was a holiday home just outside of Simorre. House was in a perfect setting but too secluded and would be impossible to get to in the snow (even with the Landrover). So she moved down to the village and sold our place through Bluehomes and we bought privately.

Mum and Sarah got on well, they got horrendously drunk on many occasions!

Just had a look on googlemaps, not a million miles away from us, just head due East. I live in London but spent Christmas there and visit when I can. Very nice part of the world.

Any pics?

I'll stick a couple of pics up....can I just check, it seems from the posting tools that the only way to do it is via a link to, say, photobucket or somesuch, is that correct or is there a way to insert pics directly into the post itself? cheers

What you need to type is

if you just type (or paste the link) and highlight it then click the img button it will add the img boxes automatically. On the flipside of that you could click the img box then paste the link in between the img boxes

Beautiful!

BTW, you can do multiple images in one post if you want too. I don't know if there is a limit to how many you can put though.

worked that out afterwards!

I have some pics from my road trip a couple of weeks ago when I can download the flaming things from my camera.....but its a great country for such activity, especially into the Pyrenees....the scenery is stunning and its a seriously protected environment - can't even overfly at lowish altitude, you'd probably get shot down by a gendarme LOL

Great pics, i 'm planning a trip to italy (SORENTO) next year , returning via s/ france, as i must drive the GP circuit in Monaco, have walked it a number of times, loved the pic outside the casino .... david

lovely pics! You can see the Pyrenees from the bottom of the garden but they are not quite as big as that!

I love the Monaco pic as well...she really felt at home in Monaco despite the fact that the new Ford Focuses etc are worth more...

Bumpski..

Heading for the D'Aragnouet/Bielsa tunel on the Pyrenees in September...the entrance is about a third of the way down from the very centre of the picture....

and this one was right on the french/spanish border - the missus was having a wobbly because I stopped the car and leapt out to take the shot.....at the time we were 1.5 Kms into the 3km tunnel and about 3000 feet under the mountain above, oh and there was a car coming.....on my side of the road

wow, some great pics!

Serious respect for risking a road traffic accident to take that pic, awesome!

I got told off by the gendarmes for pulling up outside the casino but well worth it!
