have you tried googling the part #?

I know your new to the forum but as its posted in the E89 discussion section that would have been a massive clue. It tells you up the top of the thread where it is posted.

Ron, looks like there is some numbers on it. Looks rather small so hopefully you can see them and Google.

I assume you've not had any abnormal stuff in the boot? The wee bit of paint/colour on the part would indicate it probably is from the car. If I'm home at lunchtime I'll have a look in the boot

There's been nothing unusual in the boot - ive even looked on the luggage set - the paint mark isn't car related. It looks like a well made part as opposed can to a throw away or packing bung - it looks like it was supposed to remain in situ .

It is the sort of plug I would expect to see underneath the parcel shelf area. Not that I have looked into an E89, but as it has fallen down I expect it came from above somewhere.

I've found a German site which shows the part - but my German is not good enough und Frau K doesn't do technical stuff !

Half open the boot, then you should see that part. That is what it said on the post with the two pictures (mick70)

If you go to the link using Google Chrome it will translate the page for you , there are a couple of photos in the link as well showing relevant location,

so, hier noch schnell 2 Bilder, wie gesagt Verdeck "halb" geƶffnet, der Kofferraumdeckel ist nach hinten geklappt:

so, here fast 2 images, as said top open "half" of the boot lid is folded back:

I'm going to look this afternoon !

Update:-
I did and I can't see a similar plug/ cap on the other side nor a suitable place for it!

Sorry, I should have said "thank you" earlier.

The part number is:- 90000001539

Ive found where it fits - It was quite well camouflaged tho and the German photographs didn't make it very obvious to me.
The part is there to centre the helical spring on the fork.
To refit was a bit of a fiddle on - Remove the spring, fit the bobbin into place (tongues click into a groove in the centre pin) then re hook the spring ends.
