Having read through the ‘show us your watches’ thread, and having just negotiated a healthy discount on a Tudor for the Mrs Birthday… I’m starting to get the itch for a new (or used) watch myself.

I’ve got an Ebel 1911 that I never wear. It’s over 20 years old, needs a service and a new battery and I’ve gone off the style a little. It’s stainless steel, with a black face and 18ct gold bezel and matching gold links in the bracelet. I highly doubt it’s worth very much, and probably not worth the spend to get it serviced by Ebel and running again, but I don’t think I’d ever part with it for sentimental reasons.

I noticed (from the show us your watches thread) that many people are frequently buying and selling second hand watches, and that this seems to be the preferred approach to buying new with a discount. This got me wondering, what forums people are using to buy and/or sell?

Now whilst I wouldn’t buy a second hand watch as a present for the Mrs, I’m much more open to this approach for something for myself.

So where are people trading watches and what precautions do you take re avoiding fakes etc.

Many thanks

I've seen a TV advert for Watchfinder, but have no experience of them.

I keep meaning to contact them to see about selling a Raymond Weil watch I never wear - just need to get around to it!

I’ve used this guy before, has a tie in (or at least used to) with companies who give watches at annual awards, best salesman etc etc and he bought unworn ones from prize winners who didn’t want them.

Goes through spells of having loads of unworn/fully stickered watches, just your luck if they’ve got what you’re looking for

Out of interest, where did you get the discount on the Tudor, OH making noises about one so may end up purchasing one soon :o

I just got my wife a Tudor from Watches of Switzerland that gave a £250 voucher. The only issue is that it is fast by 1 minute a day so need to sort that.

Can recommend Watchfinder, I traded a Tag Carrera against a Second hand Monaco Gulf with no issues. Their watches tend to be mint with good descriptions and images of the watch.

I've recently used Watches of Mayfair for a new Bell and Ross, 800 quid off list who were very good quick delivery and called me to arrange delivery so I'd be home which was a nice touch.
