Converted Steve said:Mines easy, my name is Steve well to my Mother Stephen, but to every one else Steve.
The converted bit is easy as well after many, many years of being a British Sports car enthusiast and owning lots of different British sports cars, from Triumph Spitfires, TR7’s, MG Midgets, MGB’s, MGBGT’s and more recently MGF’s and finally an MG TF and being an active member of the MG Owners club and MG car club, I finally succumbed and in doing so lost lots of friends when I bought a BMW Z4. I became a convert to the BMW experience, hence ‘Converted Steve’.
And I’m really not joking when I say I lost a lot of friends, the MG lot are a strange breed, take everything very seriously, I had friends who came to club meets in MG jackets, with MG hats, MG gloves, MG sun glasses, MG hoodies, MG socks, drank out of MG mugs or glasses, all a bit sad really
I got loads of stick on facebook when I posted pictures of the Z4.
I suppose it all really started when I completed my Indentured Apprenticeship at ‘Donald Healey Motors’ in the early 70’s and fell in love with two cars I have never owned the Healey 3000 and Austin Healey Sprite
Got to admit though, really should have tried a BMW years ago, absolutely love the Z4![]()

There's a lot to be said for the British sports car heritage but feckin hell any petrolhead with 2 brain cells to rub together must at least respect the quality engineering and design of our German cousins. Your so called MG pals should smash their MG mugs on the funeral pyres of the MG Metro, the MG Maestro and the MG Montego (bad times). The MGTF wasn't much better either - try and change a head gasket in one and you'll see what I mean (and they are very prone to head gasket failures).

Agree with what you say about Metro, Maestro and Montego, glorified sheds on wheels.
Although I must admit I have enjoyed owning all the British sports cars, I do agree also that the TF was a badly thought out car produced at a time of cutbacks within the MG Rover Group, very bad move, even the various facelifts were mainly cosmetic with few improvements to handling or performance.
Don’t disagree with what you say about German engineering, but remember even BMW have problems ‘Read this forums problem section its full of them’
Totally disagree with what you say about MGF/TF head gaskets though; having changed several they are easy, last one I did was complete in just over 4 hours, I agree not as easy as an old MG Midget A series which could be done in half that time
