There are some really good avatars on here, my favourites are, in no particular order of preference are, guiseley, alanj, kirsty, wondermike, teamemmenracing & sp3ctre.

Have had my avatar since joining steam in 2004, and use it on all my forums etcetera, obviously catwomen, but a cuter version than normally depicted which seemed to be more me.
 
Mine is simply me at a halloween party-kinda many moons ago. Not to mention, it stands out due to the color :P

My forum one is a picture I think Pawnsacrifice took on the first Skye run last year, that I just liked.
 
Or she was just sensitive - you know those Coupe types are rather touchy if they don't get a mention ... 8)
